The pandemic has drawn a lot of unique circumstances this year, causing The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to advise tourists to boycott travel. Despite this, many Americans are now vaccinated and beginning to regain confidence in travel; Cancun is continuing to experience a spike in visitors, as vacationers continue to book a getaway to what TripAdvisor previously declared as the “international capital of spring break.”
With sparkling white sand and crystal clear waters, vacationers continue to gather in Mexico’s welcoming city.
Cancun’s hotel records and reservations for the upcoming days indicate that Cancun’s overall visitors from the U.S. for the month of March are projected to be 300,000, says the Tourism Board. The tourism rate has definitely increased in comparison to the 222,731 visitors recorded in March of last year.
Determining factors is that Mexico is one of the few international vacation spots that are currently welcoming Americans with relaxed entry requirements.
Although Cancun has mandatory COVID-19 guidelines for tourists to follow such as application of face masks and social distancing, entry into Mexico does not require quarantines or proof of a negative coronavirus test, which is why the city continues to operate as the vacation hotspot.
After fluctuating in visitors the past year, hotel occupancy in Cancun has continued to restabilize throughout the past months, as tourist rates in the city go up.
Cesar Fallardi, director of operations for The Grand at Moon Palace, stated that business has been increasing and decreasing irregularly since the resort reopened in early June after its two-month closure; However, ever since the holiday season has approached, hotels such as The Grand at Moon Palace are experiencing an upswing in reservations.
