You Can Fly To Cancun For Less Than $300 Round Trip From These Airports

Some Flights Drop Below $200 For Quick Late Summer Getaways

Everything is expensive right now. There’s no avoiding the soaring inflation and ludicrous energy costs, and unfortunately, when combined with the equally high demand for travel, vacations that are easy on the wallet are few and far between.

But we still want to travel. According to the statistics, we’re all throwing caution to the wind and spending far more than normal. Maybe it’s something to do with being shut up in our houses for two years?

But there are still some excellent fares that could make a late summer Cancun getaway achievable without breaking the bank. It’s generally a lower demand time compared to the big weeks like Christmas, Easter, and other major holidays. But if you’re willing to get away in mid to late August, you could have a bargain on your hands for under $300.

The Points Guy accumulated some of the cheapest deals from major airports around the country, with a specific focus on sub-$300 airfares. Here’s what they found.

The cheapest flight deal they found was from Miami to Cancun roundtrip for a whopping $158 in late to mid-August. It might seem too good to be true, and it kind of is. The flight is with Frontier, a budget airline, so you can anticipate at least $70 just to check a carry-on. So unless you’re taking one outfit for your trip, you may as well get one of the more expensive options for a better flight.

American offers the same route for $228. You get your carry-on included in this price, and the experience is generally going to be better, so it’s more than worth it not to be drawn in by the cheap sticker price of Frontier’s offer. Another Florida option is Orlando to Cancun for around $268 with JetBlue. If you’re more centrally located, this is a steal for a roundtrip.

The best deal The Points Guy found was from Houston. Not surprising as the Texas airports make up the largest portion of Cancun’s American traffic. It’s also one of the shortest routes you can take to Cancun, so Texans are spoilt in this regard.

You can find round-trip flights from Houston to Cancun direct, for as low as $194, with late August prices topping out at around $300 for the lowest prices depending on the day. Anything within that range is a bargain as the flights are with United, so no awkward baggage fees.

We did advise traveling with carry-on only for the next few months to help avoid any problems at the airport. The industry is in chaos at the moment, and delays, both to baggage and flights, are extremely frequent. Going carry-on only is a great strategic move.

Dallas is also showing some great deals, with roundtrips priced at around $228 and up. You can expect a similar range as the Houston flights. These are with American Airlines again, so carry-on is included.

One of the best bargains comes to New Yorkers. Despite being much further from the Mexican Caribbean, with a flight time of around four hours, tourists from the Big Apple and surrounding area can fly from JFK to Cancun for around $298. Having a little flexibility with dates could be the key to keeping these rates below that $300 threshold, but it’s more than possible with the new JetBlue terminal in the airport.

Other notable rates that were highlighted in the article include an Austin to Cancun flight for $276 with American. Chicago to Cancun will cost $253 but will require a combination booking if you’re feeling confident – that’s with United and Volaris. New Orleans to Cancun will be sitting at around $267 with American too.

Remember, these are fares for mid to late August, so don’t expect to see these kinds of numbers for holiday weeks or long weekends later in the year. This is an off-peak time and can be taken advantage of if you have the time to do so.
