Tourists looking for a more intimate beach experience in the Riviera Maya should look no further than Secret Beach.

Just a short drive from Cancun, Secret Beach is a hidden gem in the Mexican Caribbean.

Secret Beach is the perfect place for couples seeking a secluded romantic getaway. It is also great for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing with the family.

Here is a look at how tourists can incorporate Secret Beach into their holiday:

Why Don’t Crowds Take Over Secret Beach

Unlike many of the beautiful beaches of the Mexican Caribbean, Secret Beach is not overrun by tourists; visitors can enjoy themselves in relative isolation.

Secret Beach truly lives up to its name. Many tourists do not know about this beach and therefore do not visit.

In addition, it is more difficult to access than other beaches. Visitors must take a small hike from the highway to reach it.

In addition, Secret Beach does not have the same infrastructure as other beaches.
In Playa del Carmen, tourists enjoy bustling corridors lined with shops, nightclubs, and restaurants. But, at Secret Beach, tourists will not find many buildings.

Part of the charm of Secret Beach is that it is not developed. Tourists who want to experience nature at the beach find that Secret Beach is the perfect place.

How To Get To Secret Beach

Part of what keeps crowds away from Secret Beach is its isolation.

To get there, tourists must take the Cancun-Tulum highway. They will find Secret Beach between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen.

In a Taxi, it is 45 minutes from Cancun or 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen. In Spanish, ask for “la Playa Secreto.”

When To Visit

Because it is secluded and unaffected by over-tourism, Secret Beach is a great year-round destination. Thanks to the Riviera Maya’s tropical climate, the sun always shines on those who want to get away!

Secret Beach’s exclusivity is even more valuable during the busy Easter holidays and Spring Break season. While the most famous beaches in Cancun and Playa del Carmen are crowded, intelligent travelers who want a break from the action escape to Secret Beach.

Nevertheless, as with any beach in the Riviera Maya, you will likely find less tourism during the off months of May-November.

However, major beaches will always be busy in the Mexican Caribbean because of the good weather and beautiful scenery. Luckily, Secret Beach won’t be!

What To Bring To Secret Beach

The essentials for a day at the beach in the Riviera Maya are always the same: bug repellent and sunscreen.

This remains true at Secret Beach, where the sun and mosquitos will punish unprepared tourists.

While beachgoers at Playa del Carmen who forget to bring sunscreen or bug repellent can always go to a nearby store, Secret Beach visitors may not have that luxury.

Secret Beach requires a little more preparation than other beaches in the area. Since there are not as many restaurants nearby as tourists are used to, it is a good idea to pack a picnic.

Water is another essential commodity. While you can cool off from the high temperatures in the sea, dehydration is still a danger for those that are not prepared.

Attractions Near Secret Beach

Although Secret Beach is relatively undeveloped, it is conveniently near several tourist attractions.

Only a ten-minute drive away, Cenote Tula is worth a stop on your day trip to Secret Beach.

Cenotes are freshwater springs hidden in the Yucatan jungle and a must-visit for travelers in the Mexican Caribbean.

Tourists can explore the rainforest and swim in the crystal-clear waters of Cenote Tula or sign up for a horseback tour of the area at the nearby Bonanza Ecotourism Ranch.

Ten minutes in the opposite direction is Jungala Aqua Experience, a water-themed amusement park.

The park boasts pools, waterslides, and spas so guests of all ages can enjoy their experience.
