Due to confirmed cases of Covid-19 with associates of the Cobá Archaeological zone, the location is now closed to the public until further notice.
Only 7 days after reopening to the public from July 30th – August 4th for sanitization and tracing due to another positive Covid-19 case, The Cobá Archaeological zone is once again closed until further notice.
These measures have been taken in accordance with strict protocols that have been put in place to prevent surges of Covid-19 transmissions.
When there is Covid positive contact there are a number of things that need to be done in order to prevent further transmission. For instance, contact tracing and quarantine for people potentially exposed. As well as a very thorough cleaning and sanitizing as indicated by specific sanitary guidelines.
The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) takes the safety of their staff and guests very seriously, so when these types of things happen – appropriate action is taken to protect everyone.
Margarito Molina, The INAH delegate in the state recently reported that the Mayan Museum of Cancun, Tulum and San Gervasio have also recently been temporarily closed due to contact with positive cases of Covid-19.
The Ministry of Culture and the INAH strongly urge visitors to stay away from the Cobá Archaeological zone until all protocols have been completed and conditions for reopening have been put in place. An announcement will be made in regards to the reopening as soon as possible.
These closures have been happening since the global Covid-19 pandemic began back in March 2020. Some have been for a mere 4 days – others for weeks at a time.
Local authorities remind and encourage the community to be vigilant and on top of following all necessary prevention protocols.
