There are plenty of reasons to visit Playa del Carmen, which is why the Mexican Caribbean vacation destination is so popular.
Exciting nightlife, stunning beaches, amazing food, incredible all-inclusive resorts and boutique hotels, culture-rich experiences, and adventure activities top the list.
But now there will be one more thing to add to that list, as Playa del Carmen plans to create the world’s largest urban art display.
Who Is Creating Playa Del Carmen’s Urban Art Display
A total of 25 artists will contribute to the urban art display that will be created in Playa del Carmen.
It is part of a project called Playa para Playa, led by Carlos Segura Ponce de Leon.
Artists that will be working on the project are artists local to the area.

What The Urban Art Display Will Look Like
While there is no way to tell exactly what this huge urban art display will look like, the project promoter did announce that it will depict the past and present in Playa del Carmen.
You can expect to see images depicting Mayan history and Playa del Carmen’s fishing village past.
Additionally, images of daily life in Playa del Carmen, such as snorkeling and other fun activities, as well as local restaurants, will be displayed.

When The Urban Art Display Will Be Created
Playa del Carmen’s massive urban art display will be created in stages.
The project began on July 28th. The next stage is going to be created on October 21st and 22nd.
Currently, there is no information on when the project will be completed, but visitors can see it during any stage of its creation.

Where The Urban Art Display Will Be Located
The urban art display will be located underneath a bridge in Playa del Carmen.
The work of art will run along Constituyentes Avenue.
It will start at 12th Street and continue all the way to 24th Street, a nearly three-mile stretch.

Why The Urban Art Display Is Being Created
According to the project promoter, one of the reasons the urban art display is being created is because it is a gift to Playa del Carmen. He commented, “The project, the idea, is to give a gift to Playa del Carmen.”
But the bigger reason is to try to achieve a world record for the largest urban art display in the world, something that will be one more reason for tourists to visit Playa del Carmen.
Furthermore, Carlos Segura Ponce de Leon says that the artistic display will “Give visibility to the artists, bring color to the city, help order, because we believe that together all sectors can give this gift to Playa del Carmen.”

How Visitors Can See Playa Del Carmen’s Urban Art Display
From all indications it looks like there will be no charge to see this unbelievable, massive work of art, partly due to its central outdoor location, and there is no mention of fees to see it.
Playa del Carmen visitors can simply locate the bridge and walk along the section to see it for themselves.
More information on how to get there and where to start along the path will likely be available once the project is complete.
