Cancun is gearing up for the busiest winter season on record this year with new estimates showing hotel occupancy could reach nearly 100% during the hectic holidays.
The sun-drenched resort hotspot is the most popular destination in Mexico for American travelers and this year will be no different. With millions of U.S. travelers flocking south in search of warm weather and excellent hospitality, Cancun stands out as the premier choice for countless tourists.
With the start of the busy winter season just around the corner, here’s a look at when travelers can expect resorts in Cancun to be nearly fully sold out.
Cancun Approaches Record-Breaking Winter Season With Resorts Quickly Filling Up
2023 has been an exceptional year for Cancun’s booming tourism industry. Not only has the coastal hub welcomed more travelers than ever this year, but officials are almost ready to launch the Maya Train, an unprecedented undertaking that is set to further boost the city’s growing popularity.
Cancun and nearby resort destinations welcome well over a million travelers during the busy holiday period alone, and this year, things are looking better than ever for the sun-drenched region.

New estimates published this week show that Christmas and the week following the holiday are set to be the busiest for Cancun’s resorts.
Despite over a month left to go for Christmas, accommodations across Cancun are already filling up with travelers, aided by growing visitor numbers from key markets, especially the United States.
November has been a rather busy month for Cancun’s travel industry, with more flights arriving from major airports across the U.S. and North America. Cancun International Airport is currently receiving an average of over 500 flights each day as demand for the popular destination continues to climb.

But November’s arrival figures represent a significantly smaller number than those of December when tens of thousands of travelers will set foot in the sunny hotspot each day. Those numbers translate to an expected occupancy of over 90%, meaning that nearly all of Cancun’s hotel rooms will be sold out.
Growing demand means that last-minute bookings will come with a hefty price tag, with all-inclusives costing up to a thousand dollars a night. The city’s skyrocketing popularity also means that travelers who haven’t booked their guided tours should do so now, with many top-rated excursions selling out fast.

Meanwhile, city officials are also gearing up for a record-breaking winter season by implementing new measures to protect travelers.
From using high-tech methods to monitor traffic & crime to deploying troops across the city’s Resort Area, authorities are committed to prioritizing safety.

What The Launching Of The Maya Train This December Means For Cancun And The Mexican Caribbean
Cancun International Airport is heading into the busiest time of the year in terms of commercial flights. In addition to that, the upcoming launching of the Maya Train will make it easier than ever before to reach a number of exciting hotspots across the Mexican Caribbean.
The new Maya Train will have a massive station close to Cancun airport, from where travelers can transfer to downtown Cancun as well as the Resort Area. Travelers headed further south to Playa del Carmen or Tulum from Cancun airport can simply purchase a ticket and take advantage of the new modern railway system.
