Hotel owners are starting to get a little nervous with the start of the busy Spring travel season right around the corner.
They are starting to plan worker coverage schedules ahead of the large increase of international travelers to the region and finding they are a little short.
While this seems to happen around this time each year, the staff levels are actually looking better than in the prior pandemic-influenced years.
What this means is that travelers should have an even better guest experience during their upcoming spring vacation getaway than in the past few years.
Better Staffing Levels
According to Palace Hotel Group President José Chapur in a recent report on the issue, the lack of staff in Cancun’s resorts and hotels is only about five to ten percent down this year.
This is much better than the past couple of years.
During the pandemic, the worker shortage was more in the range of about 30 percent.
“In Quintana Roo we are always between five and ten percent missing,” Chapur said in a published report. “If you require 100 waiters, you end up having 90, 95, 100 waiters, you are only missing 5 or 10.”
The good news is that despite being short-staffed for the upcoming Spring travel season, the level of workers ready to serve international guests in Cancun is actually considered pretty normal.
No Impact on Guest Service
Most travelers to Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean will not see the lack of five to ten percent of resort and hotel workers impacting their travel to the beach vacation hotspot.
The properties have been shifting their lack of workers to back of house functions such as prep cooks, laundry workers and landscape workers as opposed to front of house employees that provide service directly to guests.
That way the direct guest experience is not impacted and travelers to Cancun get to enjoy the world class hospitality the region is known for around the world.
This is dramatically different than the pandemic years where both the front and back of house worker shortages were directly impacting tourist vacation experiences.
A number of recent successful job fairs have made sure that Cancun was ready to provide a great experience for international travelers looking for fun in the sea, sun and sand.
More Worker Training
Resorts and hotels in Cancun have been investing in training for their employees for a number of years now, meaning that the staff are better prepared to handle guest service with the lower staffing levels.
Programs dedicated to customer service and addressing customer complaints have helped enhance the service level tourists can expect on their vacation getaway.
This has especially been the case with the focus on providing higher levels of service as several new luxury resorts have been opening their doors in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.
What Travelers Can Expect
Tourists heading to Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean for their vacation getaway should be looking forward to a great Spring vacation getaway with guest service levels finally back to pre-pandemic levels.
Even though the back-of-house hospitality teams will be running a little lean, visitors should not notice any discernable difference in service provided directly to travelers.
In fact, employees across the region are eagerly looking forward to welcoming travelers to the Mexican Caribbean with a renewed energy and passion to showcase the region’s world-class hospitality to visitors from around the world.
It should be a great time to enjoy the Spring travel season in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean with a drink in your hand and your toes in the sand.
Have a great spring holiday vacation getaway!
