The Mexican Caribbean is more popular than ever with travelers.
The sunny region just broke its all-time travel record thanks to the busy Easter Holiday period.
Among its many amazing destinations, few are growing quite as fast as the tropical island of Cozumel, which is an increasingly attractive choice for visitors.
The large tropical island was recently designated the title of Magical Town, owing to its rich history & vibrant culture, and has skyrocketed with travelers ever since.
Home to quaint beaches, untouched nature, and a growing number of stunning accommodations, Cozumel is one of the best alternatives to packed resort towns like Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
With that in mind, here are 4 reasons why Cozumel is skyrocketing in popularity with travelers this year.
Magical Town Status
Cozumel has seen its popularity skyrocket after being officially designated a Magical Town this year. The highly sought-after title is only given to a handful of destinations known for offering unique natural, cultural, and historical elements.
And with its stunning combination of pristine white-sand beaches, ancient Mayan history, and lively towns, Cozumel is certainly one of the most compelling destinations in the region.
The tropical destination is the fourth destination in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo to be named a Magical Town.
According to the Mexican government, which oversees the publicly-funded program, Cozumel boasts some of the largest reefs in the world, such as the Mesoamerican Reef in the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park.
In addition to its rich nature, Cozumel is home to a vast array of Mayan ruins, including San Gervasio.
Improved Connectivity To The Mexican Caribbean Mainland
While Cozumel is undoubtedly a hugely appealing destination, reaching the pristine island can be a hassle.
But that’s set to change thanks to several new announcements to improve connectivity to and from the tropical destination.
This April, a brand-new ferry route from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel began operating. Launched by Xcaret, one of the leading hospitality firms in the region, the new ferry connection will run daily between the two hotspots with hourly departures.
Several other ferry companies, including Ultramar, also operate ferry connections to Cozumel, offering travelers numerous options to reach the sun-soaked island. Travelers wishing to reach Cozumel via flight can do so through numerous U.S. airports, which operate nonstop connections to the destination.
Record Variety In Stunning Vacation Rentals
Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean are in the midst of a vacation rental renaissance, with over 40,000 vacation rentals currently available throughout the touristy region. And Cozumel is no exception to that trend.
The large tropical island currently boasts nearly 2000 vacation rentals, representing a yearly increase of nearly 6%. The lion’s share of rentals are available through websites like Airbnb, which offer travelers the greatest security & booking flexibility.
And while the island is home to a growing number of accommodations, travelers are urged to exercise caution when booking online rentals due to increased rates of fraud.
Booming Hotspot For Digital Nomads
One of the primary reasons behind Cozumel’s growth as a hotspot has to do with its appeal as a hub for digital nomads, who make up a growing number of travelers to the Mexican Caribbean.
With more workplaces making the shift to remote work, Cozumel stands out as one of the top choices for travelers seeking to balance work with leisure.
Not only is the island a prime destination for nature lovers, but it also boasts a growing community of digital nomads & co-working spaces.
Cozumel’s quaint downtown is packed with top-rated coffee shops with a modern twist, including Coworking EMbii COFFEE.
