Cancun and Riviera Maya have not been instructed by Mexican authorities to close down beaches for the Easter holiday.
With the important holiday approaching, authorities have ordered beach closures throughout the country in an attempt to prevent a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The country has exempted Cancun and Riviera Maya from this protocol, making it undecided whether the two places will impose restrictions or not.
The Ministry of Health has warned that the ease of restrictions during the country’s Holy Week could result in more COVID-19 cases.
Given this information, the most populated states such as Sinaloa will be having beach closures, while smaller municipalities will have their beaches open during the holidays but with shorter open hours and decreased overall capacity sizes.
State Governor Carlos Joaquín is continuing to fully develop plans regarding beach statuses in Cancun and Riviera Maya during the upcoming holiday period.
Currently, the governor’s plans have established a capacity of 60% of visitors to be authorized, given that all beach visitors comply with COVID-19 health regulations and wear obligatory face masks.
With Cancun maintaining open and inclusive beaches, tourists can now celebrate this Easter in beautiful landscapes, idyllic beaches, and fascinating historic sites.
