The travel industry of Quintana Roo is constantly improving as the Tourism Board works around the clock to enhance health and safety protocols, facilitate testing sites, and collaborate with international airline carriers to increase connectivity.

According to data from the Quintana Roo Tourism Board, hotel occupancy in Cancun has risen to 43% as of February 18.

Popular destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, including the Riveria Maya, Cozumel, and the Gran Costa Maya have also shown inclined occupancy rates, reaching 25 percent, 38 percent, and 22 percent, respectively.

The Tourism Board has noted that there are 700,701 foreign and domestic tourists currently in Quintana Roo.

Pandemic-era travel is hardly a breeze, yet the Mexican Caribbean hotspot is the closest it gets. The government and tourism board have acted collectively to ease entry restrictions to make travel as convenient and accessible as possible under the current global circumstances.

With the CDC order that took effect on January 26, American travelers are required to obtain a negative COVID-19 test result prior to their return to the U.S. Accordingly, Cancun has installed convenient test sites within hotels, mainly for free, for guests. While the order adds yet another hindrance for travelers, Cancun has made the conditions more accessible while making travel safer as a result.

Enhanced Health & Safety Measures at Hotels

Due to its vigorous health and safety efforts, the popular tourist destination has earned the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Safe Travels stamp, a certification of successfully implemented standardized global health and cleanliness practice.

Plenty of Cancun’s hotels and resorts have also received the WTTC stamp for executing health protocols, hygiene standards, social distancing practice, and more.

Additionally, many of the leading accommodation brands offer contactless payments and mobile key cards as extended safety measures. This symbol of health and care gives visitors a sense of security and comfort while vacationing.

Hotel Packages & Travel Deals

Travelers looking for a getaway will find no shortage of deals offered by hotels and resorts in Cancun. The tourism-backed economy of Quintana Roo is calculated in promoting travel and tourism through attractive offers and activities. Hotels and resorts are leveraging some of the lowest rates in years which has worked to their advantage.

Meanwhile, airlines are similarly doing the same. Due to the decline in travel activity, airlines are now offering lower rates and more frequent service. More carriers are adding new routes, making travel to Cancun more affordable and accessible.
