Beach Bliss On A Budget! Island Paradise Near Cancun Among Most Affordable Destinations This Year According To Travel & Leisure

Vacations can put a pretty big dent in your wallet.

That, and, of course, getting the time off, is why so many people only get the luxury of taking one or two vacations a year.

But what if vacations could be more affordable?  What if you could find beach bliss on a budget?

The fact is, you can if you choose Cozumel as your next vacation destination.

This island paradise near Cancun is among the most affordable destinations this year, according to Travel & Leisure.

How Affordable Is It To Visit Cozumel?

The Mexican Caribbean is a popular region full of beautiful vacation destinations, so you wouldn’t think you could vacation in one of those places on a budget.

If you look, you can find deals, though, and one of the places that can be more affordable than you might think is Cozumel.

Travel & Leisure, based on information from Kayak, determined that the average flight and hotel cost to vacation in Cozumel is around $889.

Best Time To Visit Cozumel For An Affordable Vacation?

Travel & Leisure’s analysis also determined the cheapest months to travel to Cozumel.

It’s not surprising that it isn’t during the winter because winter is one of the busiest seasons for Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations.

So it makes sense that the slower seasons would be more affordable, and June-October is the cheapest time to visit the destination.

Cozumel’s Location

Cozumel sits off the coast of another very popular Mexican Caribbean vacation destination, Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen is less than an hour from Cancun International Airport.

Once in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel is just a 45-minute ferry ride from the mainland, and it costs around $15 each way.

How To Get To Cozumel

There are several different ways to get to Cozumel.

There are three convenient airports to fly into.

Cozumel has its own airport, but its connectivity is low, with direct flights available from just eight U.S. airports.

On the plus side, when you arrive in Cozumel, you won’t have to go far to get to your hotel.

Other Ways To Get To Cozumel

Tulum Airport is a little bit better connected, with nonstop flights arriving each week from a total of 10 U.S. airports.

Cozumel is a little over 2.5 hours from Tulum Airport, including the ferry ride, so you’ll need transportation to get there if you fly into Tulum.

The airport with the best connection with U.S. airports, though, is Cancun Airport, which is directly connected to 44 airports in the country.

You’ll have to book transportation, or Maya Train tickets, to get to the Cozumel ferry port in Playa del Carmen if you fly into Cancun, but there are so many more options that it might be worth it.

Cozumel has a great mixture of luxury all-inclusives, boutique hotels, and resorts.

For a highly rated hotel, rates start at as low as $50 a night, and for an all-inclusive hotel, rates start at less than $200 a night, but of course, they can get much higher, too.

Some nightly rate examples for dates you can book for July right now are:

  • Cozumel Palace All-Inclusive – $541
  • Melia Cozumel All-Inclusive – $268
  • Playa Azul Cozumel – $149

What To Do When Visiting Cozumel

Cozumel is a nature and beach lover’s paradise.

It’s known for its snorkeling and diving, its enormous Punta Sur Eco Beach Park, its marine park, and the San Gervasio Ruins.

Cozumel also has a vibrant nightlife, a great food scene, and a charming downtown area, so you’ll never have a shortage of things to do when visiting this more affordable alternative to the pricier Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations.
