This will be another popular travel year, according to the latest research report from Tripadvisor. More than four out of five Americans are already planning a vacation getaway in 2024.
Where will many of these travelers be headed for the new year?
According to the travel favorites of Tripadvisor reviewers, many will be headed to Cancun, one of the top ten international destinations of 2024.
Travelers of Habit
We are creatures of habit. At least when we are traveling. Tripadvisor survey data shows that nearly three out of four American tourists plan to visit their favorite travel destination this year.
The typical tourist destinations such as Paris, London and Rome make the list. While it is topped by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for the third year in a row, Cancun comes in the No. 7 spot for American international travelers.
According to the popular travel portal, “The city is one of Mexico’s all-around gems—literally made for vacationing. Its velvety beaches are some of the best the Caribbean has to offer, while scuba divers and snorkeling buffs will find plenty of action in the surf.”
Award Winning Sites
There are several gold-award travel sites for visitors to see when visiting Cancun.
One of the top honors went to the popular tourist beach destination Playa Delfines.
Known for its soft sand, clean waters, gentle waves and convenient proximity to the tourist zone in Cancun, it is easy to see why it would be recognized as one of the top tourist destinations in the area. Not to mention that it’s free.
Cancun’s other cultural tourist destinations received honors as Traveler’s Choice spots.
The Museo Maya de Cancun was recognized this year for being a conveniently located museum in the tourist zone of Cancun featuring some very interesting Mayan artifacts to observe.
Meanwhile, the Zona Arqueológica El Rey was recognized as a hidden gem in the hotel zone where tourists can enjoy exploring and investigating an ancient ruin from 1200 AD that makes visitors feel like Indiana Jones.
Finally, in nearby Coba, the Zona Arqueológica de Cobá made the cut with a fantastic place for travelers to explore and learn more about the traditions and history of the local Mayan culture. A highlight of visitors is the 138-foot-tall Ixmoja Pyramid, one of the tallest in the entire Yucatan Peninsula.
Trends For 2024
Looking at some of the general travel trends from the Tripadvisor report, almost half of the travelers surveyed said they planned three or more trips this year. A little less than half have an international trip planned as one of the three.
An amazing 93 percent of travelers surveyed said they planned to spend the same amount, or even more, on their vacation travel getaways this year.
Asia appears to be the hot travel destination for the year, with Latin America also an important travel focus region.
What Travelers Need to Know
Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean should be a busy place to visit this year which leads to recommendations for travelers to plan ahead for their vacation getaway and make reservations well in advance.
With strong demand for travel to the area, prices of the top resorts and hotels in the popular tourist areas should remain high.
This will especially be the case when it comes to travel during the peak spring and winter travel seasons this year.
The good news is that airfares to the Cancun area should be a deal this year with the increase of flights and the March opening of the Tulum International Airport to international nonstop flights.
Still, travelers will want to book their airfare in advance while setting a price alert for any specials to Cancun or Tulum.
