There’s no denying the popularity of Cancun, the most popular destination along the Mexican Caribbean coast.
Millions of travelers visit Cancun every year, with the biggest crowds showing up in the spring for spring break and during the winter months to celebrate the holidays and escape the cold.
Other Mexican Caribbean destinations are popular during this time, but Cancun is among the top destinations worldwide to travel to right now, according to a new study from AAA.
AAA’s Study On Travel Preferences
A study conducted by AAA found that, based on travelers’ preferences, Cancun is one of 10 destinations perfect for celebrating the upcoming holidays, particularly Thanksgiving.
According to the roadside assistance and travel service company, the holiday is the ideal time to travel because people already have days off and typically can take additional days.
The busiest days for travel during this time are from the 26th of November through December 2nd.
New Travel Trends
According to this new report, travel around the Thanksgiving holiday and other end-of-the-year holidays is growing more and more popular.
This is among younger generations as well as families that are looking to enjoy unique and exciting experiences as a way to celebrate the holidays.
International destinations seem to get the most attention, and this year 10 in particular are popular, and Cancun is on that list.
What Makes Cancun One Of The Most Sought-After Destinations
Cancun is a favorite destination among travelers for a handful of obvious reasons, like the gorgeous beaches and the amazing weather.
There are some other not-so-obvious reasons it’s one of the most sought-after destinations too.
The wide availability of direct flights, especially from the U.S. and Canada, the long list of luxury all-inclusives, and the huge diversity of things to do also contribute to the destination’s popularity.
Popular Activities For Cancun Visitors
When it comes to activities in and around Cancun, there is truly something for everyone to do.
Whether you’re into history, culture, nature, or adventure, you’ll be able to find something memorable to do when visiting the destination.
Some of the most popular activities for tourists are enjoying the amenities at an all-inclusive resort and exploring the many different Mayan ruins in the region, particularly the famous Chichen Itza archaeological site.
Popular Places To Visit In And Around Cancun
There are also some super popular places that are either in Cancun or barely a stone’s throw away.
The most popular beach to visit is Playa Delfines, or Dolphin Beach, known for its endless rows of palapas, crystal clear turquoise water, and gentle waves.
Another popular place to visit is the island of Isla Mujeres, where you’ll not only find a more relaxed way of life and some of the best beaches in the Mexican Caribbean, but the fascinating Underwater Museum of Art too.
Holiday Eats That Are Popular This Time Of Year
While you may not plan to sit down to a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner in Cancun, they do have their own traditional holiday eats in Mexico that you can enjoy.
For Thanksgiving, you might find achiote stuffed turkey on the menu, and for Christmas, it’s traditional to eat tamales.
Specifically, the tradition is to eat tamales between the dates of December 12th through January 6th.
How Travelers Are Booking Their End Of Year Cancun Vacations
Another thing that AAA reported is that the preferred way for travelers to book their end-of-the-year trips is by booking packages.
Specifically, packages that include hotel, flights, and activities are popular.
This makes planning easier and ensures that you’re getting the most out of your Cancun vacation.
