Last Updated

Cancun and the state of Quintana Roo continues to defy the odds in the face of the pandemic. While most countries around the world are suffering from low international flight numbers, the resort city of Cancun and surrounding tourism hotspots including Cozumel have re-established 55 routes from different cities around the world. In the first two months of 2021, the airports received 2.4 million passengers of which 1.3 million were international visitors.

Darío Flota Ocampo, Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), said that of the total routes, 43 are from the United States, 7 are from South America and 5 are from Europe. Ocampo stated that new routes are being added every month as Cancun sets its eyes on a full tourism recovery.

“Of the international cities reaching Quintana Roo directly, 8 are from the U.S to Cozumel and 35 are to Cancun which has lead to a strong recovery in international flight connectivity from the United States,” Darío Flota Ocampo stated.

According to Flota Ocampo, Quintana Roo continues high level talks with airlines around the world regarding the steps the state is taking to help guarantee the safety of its visitors. This combined with a strong demand from tourists has helped re-establish flight connectivity.
