Cancún Braces For Cold Front Bringing Cooler Temps & Rain (April 7,2025)

Cancún, Quintana Roo – Monday, April 7th, 2025 – Well folks, it looks like that lovely Caribbean sunshine is about to take a little break! Word on the street from the National Weather Service, the SMN) is that Cold Front number 37 is heading our way. And it’s bringing a friend – a prefrontal trough, which sounds a bit technical, but basically means we can expect more rain and maybe even some lightning starting today.

Right now in Cancún, it’s still pretty warm, around 31-32 degrees Celsius (that’s in the high 80s Fahrenheit), and we might see some light rain. But hold on to your hats, because things are going to change overnight and into Tuesday.

The wind is going to switch around from that usual southeast breeze to a northwesterly, then northerly, and finally northeasterly direction. And it’s not going to be a gentle change – we’re talking gusts of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour starting Tuesday morning. The northern parts of the coast, like Lázaro Cárdenas, Isla Mujeres, good old Cancún itself (Benito Juárez), and Cozumel, are likely to feel it the most. Thankfully, it sounds like the wind will calm down again by Wednesday night.

Large waves stormy sky's Cancun

If you’re planning on being near the water, be aware that the waves are expected to get a bit choppy, reaching 2 to 3 meters. So, maybe keep an eye on that if you’re heading out on a boat or just strolling along the beach. Swimming and watersports could be hazardous.

Now for the part that might surprise some of us – it’s going to get cooler at night! Starting Tuesday morning and for the next few mornings, we’re looking at minimum temperatures dropping to around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius (that’s in the low to mid-60s Fahrenheit). Definitely a change from those typically warm Caribbean nights!

Rainy street

Looking ahead at the rest of the week here in Cancún, it’s going to be a bit of a mixed bag. Tuesday (the 8th) will probably have some light rain with highs around 24°C (75°F) and lows around 22°C (72°F). Wednesday (the 9th) looks like it’ll be pretty cloudy, but a little warmer during the day, hitting 27°C (81°F), with a low of 20°C (68°F).

By Thursday (the 10th), hopefully the skies will clear up, and we’ll have sunny days with highs of 27°C (81°F) and lows of 20°C (68°F). That nice weather seems to stick around for Friday (the 11th) too, with similar temperatures.

Cloudy Cancun Sky

Keep your umbrellas handy for Saturday (the 12th) though, as there’s a chance of light showers, with temperatures ranging from 26°C (79°F) down to 19°C (66°F). Sunday (the 13th) is currently looking clear again, and so is Monday (the 14th), with highs around 27°C (81°F) and lows around 20°C (68°F).

So, the bottom line is, while today might just be a little damp, be prepared for some wind, choppier waters, and definitely cooler nights starting on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the latest weather updates, just in case, and maybe grab a light jacket for those early mornings! Stay safe everyone!
