Cancun Is The Top International Destination Americans Plan To Visit Right Now

Last Updated

It’s getting hot in Cancun, and it’s not all about the weather.

Among travelers planning a vacation getaway for later this month, Cancun is the number one destination choice for American travelers.

That’s according to a recent survey from Allianz Partners, a provider of travel insurance products.

About the Survey

Americans are all about traveling to Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean for the holidays, as reflected by the number of bookings made for later in November.

The survey reviewed more than 80,000 travel reservations made to depart between November 18 and 23 to return November 24 to 28.

The survey found that once again, Mexican beaches topped the reservations list for travelers looking for a vacation getaway in late November.

Cancun topped the list of international destinations, followed by Los Cabos and then Puerto Vallarta.

Other beach resort destinations made the list including Jamaica, Turks & Caicos, Aruba and the Dominican Republic.

Popular other destinations included London and Paris, although they tend to be a little bit colder than Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean in late November.

Strong Travel Demand

The travel demand for vacation getaways has already been strong for visitors to Cancun.

In fact, more than 60,000 people visited Cancun area beaches in the month of October alone. That’s an impressive number for what is generally regarded as the slow tourist season in the area.

The travel demand is only expected to pick up more this month as the peak fall and winter travel season approaches with the holiday season.

Two other factors are contributing to the demand for tourism in Cancun.

First, the opening of the new international airport in Tulum is increasing tourist interest and flight capacity to the Mexican Caribbean area.

Now, the southern end of the Mexican Caribbean, which Tulum is two hours south of Cancun, is getting a renewed look from travelers seeing something different in their vacation getaway.

The new airport is set to open in December with domestic flights. The first international flights are expected to start in March with a non-stop flight from Delta Airlines via Atlanta.

More airlines, such as Spirit Airlines, are expected to announce service to the new Tulum airport soon.

The excitement about the highly anticipated Maya Train is also getting tourists interested in visiting the Mexican Caribbean.

The station at Cancun International Airport is under construction and expected to be ready in December. However, the track to the airport is expected to take a while longer while a bridge is completed near Mexico Highway 180-D.

Information for Travelers

Tourists looking to book a vacation getaway for late November need to book their reservations now, as prices for flights and hotel rooms are only expected to increase.

Travelers should expect to pay high nightly room rates for their resort or hotel room and find some of the top resorts at or near sold-out conditions.

Flights should also be booked as soon as possible to take advantage of the 14-day advanced purchase window with lower airfares.

Flights to Cancun International Airport will be the best option, especially since the airport in Tulum will not have flights to and from the United States until March 2024.

One last key tip: travelers should consider purchasing travel insurance for their late November vacation getaway to Cancun.

While tourists are looking forward to a warm tropical beach resort vacation in Cancun, travelers should be aware that the conditions when leaving or arriving back in the United States will not quite be the same as in Cancun.

There is a real possibility of winter weather conditions upon departure or return which can affect flight schedules, especially in late November. Therefore, it is recommended that tourists have a flight delay or interruption insurance to cover their vacation getaway to Cancun.
