Because of this, Cancun has launched a massive security operation to keep tourists safe during the high season.
The task of protecting tourists while visiting is one that takes a lot of planning and a lot of people, so let’s take a look at what Cancun is doing to keep tourists safe this winter.
Cancun’s Increase In Security Personnel
Every year when December rolls around Cancun officials enhance security in the destination to protect the mass amount of visitors who visit during the winter months.
This year, a total of 2,000 police officers are being deployed to help keep tourists safe.
Additionally, the roads will be monitored to help prevent crimes and accidents on the roadways.
Why Cancun Enhances Security During High Season

Additionally, it is not uncommon for military soldiers to patrol streets and popular tourist areas as well.
Areas Where Increased Security Is Concentrated
The areas frequented by tourists will see the biggest increase in security.
This includes the Hotel Zone, the beaches, the marina, the downtown area, and the area where all of the bars and nightclubs are located.
Additionally, Cancun is enhancing security in and around shopping centers and malls as well.
Things To Watch Out For In Cancun
Just like anywhere else, there is often an uptick in crime around the holiday season, so Cancun officials have warned of a few things to watch out for.
One of those is taking money from an ATM, which they suggest not doing at night, and having someone with you to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.
Another thing they warn about is leaving stores with shopping bags, as theft usually increases during the holidays, so you should always be aware of your surroundings.
