It’s not uncommon to see new hotels and resorts popping up in Cancun and the surrounding areas, with multiple new openings taking place every year. But one hotel in Cancun, the Cancun Marriott, is closing its doors for renovation and plans to reopen as an all-inclusive property in 2024. The closing date is set for March 13, 2023, and the reopening is estimated to take place during the early part of next year.
Location Of The Marriott Cancun Resort
The location of the Marriott Cancun Resort is perfect, as it is situated right in the middle of the Hotel Zone. This puts it in close proximity to all of the best attractions in Cancun, as well as plenty of great restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, and the marina. The resort is also located on a fantastic white sand beach and has a great beach club where it can be enjoyed.

Marriott Cancun Resort Now
The current Marriott Cancun Resort is a sprawling property with a huge pool, nine restaurants, a spa and fitness center, and rooms and suites with views of the Caribbean Sea. Currently, the resort is not an all-inclusive property. They do offer packages that include resort credits, though, but this could change upon reopening next year.

Rumors About The Future Of The Marriott Cancun Resort
Marriott has not said much about the renovations other than the date that they will begin and a general timeframe for reopening, but the rumor mill is going in full force.
One rumor is that the resort will no longer be a Marriott at all when it reopens but will come back under a different name, although another brand has not yet been mentioned, and this cannot be confirmed. Another rumor going around is that whatever the Marriott Cancun Resort comes back as that it will be an all-inclusive resort or at least have an all-inclusive option.

All-Inclusive Resorts In Cancun
All-Inclusive resorts are hugely popular in Cancun and make up the majority of the hundreds of hotels and resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya region.
While all-inclusives are often known to serve mediocre food and house liquor, at many of the Cancun all-inclusive you’ll find gourmet dining options and bars serving up premium drinks. It’s also common for these resorts to include 24-hour in-room dining, daily stocked mini-fridges, nightly entertainment, and weekly activities.

Changing Brands
This is not the first hotel or resort property in Cancun to go through renovations and come back as a different brand if that is, in fact, what is going to happen with the Marriott Cancun Resort. The most recent property to reopen after undergoing a property and brand name transformation was the Ritz Carlton Cancun, which came back as the Kempinski Hotel Cancun. The Omni Cancun also underwent a recent transformation and came back under the name Wyndham Grand Resort last year.
Until the company has more to say about the Marriott Cancun Resort’s future, we really don’t know too much about it. But we’ll be watching to see what this upgraded Cancun resort will have to offer.
