Playa Mujeres is a picture-perfect peninsula located around twenty minutes north of Cancun’s famous hotel zone. With the sparkling Caribbean on one side and a nature reserve on the other, this is a great spot for vacationers seeking peace and quiet, beauty and luxury.
This part of Cancun is relatively new to development, but that hasn’t stopped an impressive number of All-Inclusive resorts springing up over the last decade or so. Less well-known than many of the major Cancun resorts, if you choose to stay in Playa Mujeres you’ll benefit from the exclusive feel that comes from this gated community, which is set apart from the frenetic energy of Cancun’s Hotel Zone. But don’t worry, the nightlife and buzzing atmosphere are within easy reach if you want them.
Here we explore three of the best resorts in the beautiful Playa Mujeres.
Excellence Playa Mujeres
Being awarded the 2021 Tripadvisor ‘Best of the Best’ award for #1 All-Inclusive in Mexico, the Excellence Playa Mujeres resort is somewhere to aspire to. Visitors talk of the outstanding service from hotel staff from the moment they arrive. Stepping into the resort’s suites, you’ll feel at home but equally wowed by the luxury touches. Many of the suites boast rooftop terraces with their own plunge pool and unbeatable views over the ocean. Even the smallest rooms have a balcony with lounge beds and an in-suite jacuzzi tub.
When it comes to dining, you’ll have a wide range of world-class restaurants to choose from, including the obligatory, and always tasty, Mexican restaurant, a sumptuous Italian eatery, a spicy Indian option, and the delicious ‘Flavor Market’ where you can indulge in premium cured meats, cheeses, and tapas. There are many more restaurants to try, and nine bars where you can enjoy delicious cocktails, icy beers, or even a Havana cigar or two!
Beloved Playa Mujeres
Beloved Playa Mujeres is a couples-only resort where romance is the name of the game. One of the first resorts you’ll see on entering Playa Mujeres, this also means it’s one of the closest to Cancun, making for a quick and easy trip if you decide to explore during your stay. There’s a marina right next door, and the ferry to Isla Mujeres is close by, making this one of the best-connected of the Playa Mujeres resorts.
On entering Beloved, you’ll immediately become aware of the wellness focus of the resort. There’s the serene Beloved Spa, which includes a hydrotherapy circuit, and suites feature a jacuzzi, or private plunge pool, as well as an impressive number of amenities, and luxury touches.
The dining options at Beloved are designed to appeal to foodies who demand quality and flair from their food. The restaurants may not be large in number, but they’ll provide you with unforgettable meals with cuisines from Mexico, Italy, a French gourmet-style option, and an ever-popular food truck, amongst others. The seven bars and lounges offer an interesting selection of styles, from a sushi lounge to a juice bar and a standout coffee shop.
The resort will keep you entertained at all times, with three pools and four jacuzzies, a fitness center, regular wellness workshops, cookery classes and so much more.
Estudio Playa Mujeres
Estudio Playa Mujeres markets itself as family-friendly and also as a boutique resort, and it really does deliver on both counts. Appealing to families looking for a comprehensive range of kids’ club activities, the resort offers the Doodle Club, which has impressive credentials guaranteed to keep the littlest humans in your family entertained. But it’s also a truly boutique-feeling experience, with bespoke service and those pleasing little extras that make a stay so special.
The Estudio suites here are spacious and inviting, with comfortable couple-sized accommodations right up to the Inspira Family Suites which provide that extra space families require. The Inspira suites concept is ultra-luxury, offering early check-ins, upgraded bar spirits, and access to exclusive areas of the resort, amongst other perks. The resort boasts a golf course designed by the legendary Greg Norman, and there’s also the Nuup Spa, where the grown-ups can enjoy some downtime.
For dining options, families can enjoy the eight restaurants in the resort, but for those with kids aged 16+, the whole family can enjoy the additional restaurants found at neighboring Atelier Playa Mujeres, which is a luxurious adults-only resort.
