“To finally welcome a nonstop international flight to Oklahoma City for the first time in a generation is a historic moment for us, “Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said in a news release.  This new route will undoubtedly boost tourism, strengthen our local economy, and enhance our city’s reputation as a growing and globally connected hub.”

American Airlines will operate the new route using Boeing 737 aircraft, offering a comfortable and reliable travel experience. Cancun, located on the northeast coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, is a world-renowned tourist destination famous for its stunning white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and rich Mayan history. The city offers a wide array of attractions, from luxurious all-inclusive resorts and lively nightlife to ancient ruins like Chichen Itza and underwater wonders perfect for snorkeling and diving. The new nonstop flight from Oklahoma City is expected to be particularly popular among families, couples, and spring breakers looking for an easily accessible tropical getaway.

The introduction of this international route is the culmination of years of effort by the Oklahoma City Airport Trust and local stakeholders to enhance the airport’s capabilities and attract international carriers. The recent completion of a Federal Inspection Station at Will Rogers World Airport was a crucial step in making international flights a reality. This facility allows for the efficient processing of international passengers and customs procedures, paving the way for airlines like American to launch such services.
