The arrival of the new Tulum International Airport has seen numerous well-known airlines announce non-stop flight routes to the ever-growing destination, and now a mega-popular low-cost carrier has announced new flights.

Spirit Airlines has declared it will begin operations to and from the new “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” airport in the coming months.

This comes as bookings for flights this winter are becoming increasingly busy in anticipation of the high season, which is expected to beat records once again, seeing out a staggeringly good 2023 in the Mexican Caribbean for tourism.

Aeromexico has seen huge demand for their flights, which are operating over the Christmas period. Heavyweight airlines like Delta are going to be hugely popular when beginning their daily service from Atlanta airport in late March next year.

With the cost of living crisis still affecting the U.S., many families will be looking for new ways to get their next vacation in the picture-perfect Mexican Caribbean for a reasonable price, cutting costs wherever necessary.

Spirit Airlines announcing their new non-stop flights will be a sigh of relief for many Americans, as it is known for being a relatively cheap company to travel with in comparison to others that are running flights to the new airport.

The popular low-cost airline will operate from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando initially, creating even greater connectivity to the Mexican Caribbean, which continues to see huge demand, especially from American vacationers who deem it one of the top destinations to travel to.

Aeromexico has seen a real boom in their flight bookings, which correspond with their launch on December 1st from Toronto, Canada, and San Francisco and Chicago in the U.S., especially around the dates of Christmas and New Year, signifying that Tulum could become a number one hotspot by next year.

While Cancun remains the most popular destination among vacationers from the U.S., Tulum International Airport is expecting to take off some of the pressure from Cancun International, which currently sees above 500 flights a day and could catch the overspill of tourists in a more long-term fashion.

With the clock ticking and the airport only about 78 percent complete, all eyes will be on Tulum come December 1st, hoping that vacationers get their trip to the sun this Christmas.

Need To Knows About Tulum Airport

Extremely Close. The airport is only 25 kilometers from the center of Tulum. It will be hugely accessible for tourists by bus or private car.

Opening This December. There have been no new announcements of delays to the opening of the airport, and with still over a month to go, things are looking promising that operations will begin as planned.

Many Airlines. The list continues to grow, but as it stands: Delta, American, Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Spirit are among some of the major airlines that have announced non-stop flights to the new airport.

Highly Safe. The Mexican government announced recently that thousands of troops from the National Guard will be deployed to both the Tulum Airport and the new Maya Train in order to make safety and deterring organized crime a top priority.

Busy Busy Busy. Taking off the pressure from Cancun International, the new airport is expected to have a capacity of 5.5 million passengers, as well as 32,000 operations annually. Could Tulum International Airport overtake all others in the bid for most popular? Only time will tell.
