Holbox Hotels
For being such a small island, there is a surprising number of hotel options, both in different types of hotels and in quantity, in Holbox.
Travelers can choose between boutique hotels, hostels, small adult-only hotels, and luxury all-inclusives when visiting the island.
Hotel rates range considerably depending on the property type, but you can expect to pay somewhere between $100 a night for a highly-rated beachfront hotel to around $300 for a high-end all-inclusive.

Winter Weather In Holbox
The weather in Holbox is nearly perfect during the winter months.
Temperatures generally stay between around 80-90 degrees throughout the year due to the humidity, so you’ll still be able to enjoy tropical temperatures even if you visit during the winter.
But December and January are the coolest months.
Typically, during the winter months, starting in December, it only rains a few days a month too, which minimizes the humidity a bit.

Things To Do In Holbox
The pleasant weather of the winter months in Holbox makes it the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities.
Some of the must-do activities when visiting Holbox are checking out the street art around town, seeing the flamingos at Punta Coco, and going on a nighttime kayaking adventure to see the bioluminescent water.
Aside from that, many visitors spend their time on the beaches, visiting local restaurants, shops, and cantinas, and riding around the island on a golf cart or bike.

Holbox Vs. Other Mexican Caribbean Destinations
Holbox is one of the best Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations to visit if you’re looking for a more laid-back atmosphere.
While it is growing more and more popular, it still doesn’t get the crowds you see in other island destinations like Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
It’s also much less touristy than places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, so if you’re hoping for more authenticity, Holbox is the place to go.
How To Get To Holbox
To get to Holbox, you’ll first have to fly into Cancun and then drive or book transportation to get to Chiquila.
Chiquila is between 2 hours and 2 hours and 40 minutes from Cancun Airport, depending on which road you take to get there.
Once there, you’ll head to the Chiquila ferry dock and take a 15-minute ferry ride to the island, which costs about $13 each way.
Why Winter Is The Perfect Time For A Holbox Vacation
Despite the fact that winters are busier in Holbox, it’s still the perfect time to visit.
The weather is pleasant, there’s more activity on the island, and there’s still plenty of sunshine.
While you may pay a little more to travel to Holbox in the wintertime, an escape to the island paradise is well worth it.
