A vacation to Cancun is rarely a boring affair, with a near-endless calendar of events, shows, and festivals in constant supply.
Among these, the Cancun New Year’s parties are rightly some of the biggest, but now with 2024 already here and a new year in full swing, travelers have some truly awesome events to experience that will make 2024 the best year ever.
The following are some of the hottest upcoming events in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.
Paradise Blue Festival
Held in the widely loved Paradisus Cancun resort, a four-diamond all-inclusive favorite in Cancun’s popular hotel zone, the Paradise Blue Festival is fast becoming a favorite among party-loving travelers.
Taking place from April 26th – 28th, travelers will be in a non-stop party flow for the duration of the vacation, and treated to an awesome line-up of live acts.
Excursions to big draws like Chichen Itza are available for those wanting a few hours away from the constant party, as well as more mellow yacht trips out into the inviting Caribbean Sea, but make no mistake, the Paradise Blue Festival is a wild ride of music, sun, sea, and sand.
Tickets are still available, although travelers need to be fast if they want to stay in the resort for the festival with many rushing to use their first post-Christmas paycheck to secure their spot.
Backstreet’s Back At The Beach
The globally loved Backstreet Boys, formed in 1993 and renowned for hits such as “Everybody” and “I want it that way”, are returning to Cancun in 2024 with their super-fun Back At The Beach festival.
Running from April 18th – 21st, travelers will get the festivities kicked off on the 18th with an exclusive welcome party. But the next day is when the festival really gets into gear, with a full day of entertainment, including live DJs and karaoke.
That commitment to entertainment carries on throughout each day of the festival, and while it has great value on its own, it’s the evenings on the beach stage when travelers get the big payoff.
On the 19th and 21st travelers get to take in a time-machine performance from the Backstreet Boys, reliving the band’s greatest hits and experiencing why they are considered one of the greatest boybands of all time.
Additionally, on April 20th party-goers will get a whole other treat with a live performance from the global superstar Jason Derulo.
Phish Riviera Maya
Another huge multi-day music festival, Phish Riviera Maya has a reputation for providing next-level festival vacation packages.
Taking place at the popular Moon Palace Cancun from the 21st – 24th of February, the entertainment on offer is more varied than any other entry on the list.
Like the Paradise Blue Festival, there are many excursions on offer that allow travelers to escape the resort for a few hours and take in the Mexican Caribbeans’ biggest cultural attractions.
However, the wide variety of supplementary in-resort activities are some of the biggest highlights here. With Mezcal tastings, craft beer tastings, professionally led yoga sessions, and numerous workshops all offering a rich and boredom-free vacation.
Getting a booking to stay in the Moon Palace Resort for this festival can be a mission when booked late, although there are numerous more budget-friendly and easier to book resorts tied into the festival that keep the door open on a Phish festival experience.
LOCUS
For travelers not yet aware, the hyper-trendy destination of Tulum, south of Cancun, is fast becoming an important center of music festivals, drawing in some of the biggest names in EDM, drum & bass, and electronica.
Furthermore, the days of traveling from Cancun to Tulum being a big commitment are over, with the new train service and Tulum International Airport making the destination a breeze to get to.
Early January sees a host of top-tier music festivals in the destination, but for travelers too late to make the Zamna or Day Zero festivals, they can still count on the awesome sounds of LOCUS.
Held in March, between the 13th and 17th, this drum & bass festival has one of the biggest lineups in Mexico.
A big plus for the LOCUS festival is the different tickets on offer; while many of the festivals in the Mexican Caribbean require travelers to purchase access for the full festival, travelers can opt for a 1-day or 3-day pass to LOCUS instead of the total 5-day pass.
