Slowly but surely, each section of the Maya Train is opening, and the most popular station so far is undoubtedly the one at Cancun Airport.
Travelers arriving in Cancun can go directly from the airport to the Maya Train, but there has been a delay in the arrival of the electric vehicles to be used for transport.
However, these new buses have now arrived and will soon be transporting tourists to the Cancun Airport Maya Train station.
The Modern Electric Buses That Will Take Passengers To The Maya Train Station
To transport passengers arriving at Cancun Airport to the Maya Train station a total of seven electric buses will be in operation.
They will travel along two lanes that will run between the airport and the station, which is located just a few miles away on the airport property.
The buses will travel back and forth between the airport and station throughout the day.
How Passengers Can Access The Electric Buses
After arriving in Cancun passengers will be able to board the bus outside of the terminal they arrive in.
It will pick up at terminals 2, 3, and 4.
Most international flights arrive at Terminal 4, so you’ll have no trouble catching the bus to get to the Maya Train.
The Cancun Airport Maya Train Station
The Cancun Airport Maya Train station is not just the main hub from which to access the train and essentially the entire Yucatan Peninsula, but a landmark itself.
It’s designed to highlight everything the region has to offer through its design features and amenities.
Restaurants, shops, and even attractions will give arriving tourists a glimpse of all that the Mexican Caribbean and the Yucatan Peninsula have to offer.
Getting To Cancun’s Maya Train Station From Town
Some travelers may decide to spend some time in Cancun first and then take the Maya Train to explore other areas of the region.
Getting back to the airport is typically expensive when going by taxi or private transportation, but there’s another option for those wanting to get back to the Maya Train station.
There will be transfer stations in Cancun, one close to the Hotel Zone, with buses that will take you back to the station where you can board the train.
The Maya Train Project
The Maya Train is a project that is controversial among environmentalists yet much-anticipated by both travelers and locals alike.
It will revolutionize travel in the region once all of the sections are complete.
Currently, five sections are finished and operating.
Where Travelers Can Visit By Maya Train
The most popular stop along the Maya Train has been Merida, from which travelers can also easily access the Magic Town of Valladolid and the Chichen Itza archeological site.
The most recent section, the Cancun to Playa del Carmen section, which is the northern portion of Section 5, was inaugurated on February 29th.
Along this route, travelers can stop off at Puerto Morelos, travel to Playa del Carmen, and take a ferry to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen. It is sure to be one of the most popular routes.
The Maya Train’s Future
The southern part of Section 5 is the next section to be inaugurated.
It’s estimated to be completed around August, but the date has been changed several times.
This section will take travelers as far as Tulum.
It’s still unclear as to when the final two sections will be finished, but for now, there are plenty of amazing places to see along the routes that are currently operating.
