One of the Mexican Caribbean’s most popular vacation hotspots has just announced new nonstop flights from the U.S.

The enchanting capital city of Yucatan, Mérida, will have even more increased connectivity by offering new flights from the cities of Orlando, Miami, and Atlanta in the United States in a bid to attract even more tourism to the area.

Governor of the city, Mauricio Vila Dosal, stated that “another international flight of the Viva Aerobus airline will soon begin to operate with a destination that will be announced soon and we have achieved that with the Delta airline, we can have a new Mérida- Atlanta route that will start soon and joins to continue connecting Yucatan with the world.”

This vibrant, colonial city has history bursting from its seams, with some incredible architecture and style that emanates both Spanish and Mayan styles, and has become one of the most popular ‘magical towns’ to be visited by tourists.

With it also being one of the safest cities in all of Mexico and even North America, it is no wonder that airlines are looking to improve connectivity to this charming location after the Mexican Caribbean has seen a staggering tourism boom this year.

The new flights from Orlando and Miami will begin operations next year at the beginning of July and are believed to fly three to four times a week, with another international destination to be announced in the coming months.

With tickets already on sale, the routes will cost just over 1,500 pesos, not including the Airport Use Fee (TUA).

The popularity of the area can be put down to the tireless efforts of local authorities to promote the city in new ways to catch the overspill of tourists that are flocking to Cancun, which has seen hotel occupancy reaching near capacity this year.

“This is the success that this government has had, and we have to recognize it; we broke records, and just as the first eight months of the year have been the best months of all months, we have never had so many destinations, today we have an offer of 12 national and 8 international flights”, stated the Director of Regional Airports, Héctor Navarrete Muñoz.

Safety And Pricing

With the State of Yucatan being recently announced as the safest state in Mexico and Merida as the safest city in Latin America, it is no wonder why Americans and other international travelers are flocking to the region.

Pricing in Merida is also much more affordable when compared to popular hotspots like Cancun, and now, with direct flights also at an incredibly fair price, the popularity of the town as an international destination is only expected to increase.

With the arrival of new air routes directly from the U.S., as well as connections via the long-awaited Maya train, Merida is set to become one of the most popular magical towns in all of the Mexican Caribbean, and you don’t want to miss out!

Been going to Merida for more than ten years, safe and fun place. Lots of expats and there is a good English Library if you need something to read, and an outstanding Symphony Orchestra that is not to be missed. Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. Medical Care is excellent if needed, one hospital approved for treatment of the President when he was there a few years ago. You can walk around downtown late in the evening and not get bad vibes like you would if you did it in many cities at home. If you go there, check out Vallodolid and Campeche. New highspeed rail covering the Yucatan starts service in a few months. If you like the bus, take the ADO Platinum bus to Campeche. Fully reclining seats, free wifi and fast and inexpensive service. Checkout the huge downtown Galvez Market where there isn't much you can't buy. Pickup a kilo of limes for your margaritas for about 10 pesos. The Cathedral at city center has been in use since 1598.
