For most travelers, a vacation in an international destination goes off without a hitch, but some situations occur that don’t allow the trip to get off on the right foot or end on a good note.
When this happens, it isn’t always easy to do something about it, but in Cancun, it is.
This is because there is an office specifically for tourist complaints at Cancun Airport that just reopened and will stay open year-round.
Cancun Airport’s PROFECO Office
Last summer officials in Cancun launched a Public Prosecutor’s Office, or Federal Consumer Prosecutors Office (Profeco) within Cancun Airport.
The opening of the office was for the purpose of giving tourists an option to make various complaints before leaving the country, but it was only open during busy seasons.
The office is reopening after a period of being inactive and will now stay open year-round for the foreseeable future.

Where To Find The Office
The Profeco office is located in the same location, in Terminal 2 at Cancun Airport.
Terminal 2 is typically used for domestic and some international flights, but there are options for travelers departing from other terminals.
Authorities from the office will respond to travelers with complaints in those terminals by going to them to take the report.

Typical Day Of Complaints At The Office
According to reports, there are as many as 20 complaints made every day at the airport Profeco office.
An average of about eight of those complaints are resolved before the departure of the traveler making the complaint.
According to Profeco official Israel Malacon, the office “prevents consumers from having to wait to reach their destination or occupy hours of their vacation to go to the offices and file their complaint or be advised and guided.”
@meridithturner @American Airlines sucks! After delaying our flight by 30 minute incriments for 4 hours they didn’t help hardly anyone rebook, and now we are waiting in another super long line to (hopefully) get to a hotel #bebetterAmericanAirlines #americanairlines ♬ original sound – Meridith Turner
Types Of Complaints Tourists Make
Tourists can make several different types of complaints at the Cancun Airport Profeco office.
The most common complaints are about airlines and have to do with flight delays.
Crimes that tourists are victims of can also be reported to the office prior to departure from the country.

What To Do If Your Plane Departing From Cancun Is Delayed
Aside from reporting any complaints associated with flight delays or cancellations to the Profeco office, there is another step you should take as soon as possible.
That step is contacting the airline to find out about future flight options, compensation, and so forth.
Passengers have certain rights depending on the situation, but you’ll have to do the legwork to enforce those rights.

Why The Office Is So Important For Tourists
Many tourists who have bad experiences while visiting Cancun, either due to experiencing a petty crime, not getting the service expected, or something to do with the airline, don’t report them.
Reporting them is crucial in order for authorities to address problems and issues, though.
This office makes it easy for tourists to report these instances.

Number Of Passengers Who Arrive At Cancun Airport Every Day
It’s not surprising that Cancun Airport is the place where officials decided to put a Profeco office for tourists because so many travelers pass through the airport every day.
The average is about 500 people a day, but it is not uncommon for that number to surpass 600 or more.
Millions of passengers arrive every year, many of whom are from international destinations, so having this option for addressing complaints is beneficial for travelers who are unsure of how to handle certain situations involving crime and other complaints.
