Tulum International Airport recently began operations, enabling for an even greater number of travelers to reach the historical destination south of Cancun.
With demand for the popular hotspots soaring, travelers have been surprised by exorbitant taxi fares and the lack of affordable public transport options for reaching the airport.
This week, ADO, the largest bus company in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, announced that it would soon add more departures to and from Tulum International Airport.
The move is expected to alleviate concerns over high prices and improve connections to the region’s newest International airport.

With travel to Tulum expected to further soar in 2024, here’s the latest on what ADO’s announcement means for travelers headed to the historical destination.
Increased Bus Frequencies To Bring Down Costs For Travelers At New Tulum Airport
Alongside the launching of the new Maya Train, Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo International Airport is the largest and most significant infrastructure project to begin operating this year.
Despite massively high expectations, travelers and local businesses have expressed disappointment over the lack of affordable public transit options at the new airport. With only taxis and private transfers available to arriving and departing passengers, travelers have had to pay a pretty penny to reach Tulum from the new airport.
@passportpoppin If you have plans to visit Tulum anytime soon, the brand new airport will make your trip there easier than ever before. In the past, we would have to book clients to Cancun and organize transportation. Two hours away to their hotels in Tulum. But no more! But that’s set to change in the near future thanks to an announcement by ADO, the largest bus company in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo. While the bus firm has already operated a limited number of departures to and from the new terminal, it will significantly increase departures in the coming weeks on account of soaring passenger demand.
According to Juan Manuel Diaz, ADO’s head of sales for southern Quintana Roo, the opening of the new airport presents Tulum with a unique opportunity to attract more travelers.

Home to the region’s most popular Mayan ruins – the famous Tulum Archeological Zone – as well as countless other historical and cultural wonders, Tulum stands out as one of the most versatile destinations in the region.
Unlike previously, when travelers would have to take a bus or private transfer from Cancun to Tulum, tourists may now simply fly non-stop to Tulum from a number of U.S. airports.
Airlines like American, United, and Spirit have all announced new routes to the sunny destination, which will begin operations early this year.

Travelers arriving to Felipe Carrillo International Airport may purchase tickets online or directly at the terminal.
However, with passenger numbers expected to skyrocket in the coming months, travelers are urged to purchase tickets in advance to ensure availability.
Visitors can purchase tickets on ADO’s official website. One-way tickets from Felipe Carrillo International Airport to downtown Tulum currently cost around $10. As of January 8, there are around eight daily departures to downtown Tulum, with the journey lasting around 50 minutes.

Although only a few domestic carriers are currently operating flights to the new airport, airlines including United and American will launch more non-stop connections starting in March through May.
Travelers will thus soon be able to fly to Tulum from Chicago (United Airlines, starting in April 2024) as well as Dallas (American Airlines, starting in March 2024), among others.
