For the longest time, Cancun was the reigning champion as the go-to destination in the Mexican Caribbean for travelers worldwide.

While that is still the case, other destinations have begun to emerge as serious competition to the well-known tourist hotspot, with all eyes on one in particular: Tulum.

Set with an all-new international airport, Felipe Carillo Puerto and its very own station stop via the brand new Maya Train, Tulum is quickly transforming into one of the trendiest locations in the whole of the Mexican Caribbean.

New Free Wi-Fi for Tulum

As its popularity soars among tourists and digital nomads, officials have announced that there will soon be a network of high-speed and free Wifi points in the city, making the destination more appealing than ever before!

While Tulum offers some incredible luxury accommodation options, as well as trendy workspaces and endless restaurant/cafe/healthy food spots, there has reportedly been a lack of good Wifi service to use until this point.

As the trend of digital nomadism and remote working tightens its grip on the world, Tulum has acted quickly to respond to the needs of its visitors in the hope that it will keep them wanting to return to the destination.

Though more information is set to be announced, the new Wifi points in Tulum will allow guests to reach a download speed of 200 megabytes, enabling people to work efficiently from their laptops and match the internet speeds that they are used to using back home.

With other destinations already offering free Wifi in major public areas like beaches and shopping malls, it is only a matter of time before Tulum follows suit.

The introduction of this technology is expected to catch on quickly, and it will only be a matter of time before Tulum enters the race to be one of the best places to live and work as a digital nomad.

Other Reasons Why Tulum Should Be On Your List In 2024

1. Tulum is rich in cultural experiences.

If escaping the more tourist-centric Cancun is the aim, then choosing Tulum could be the right ticket.

The place has a wealth of natural wonders, from stunning beaches to mesmerizing cenotes, which will leave you awestruck.

Unlike the overcrowded and more ‘manufactured’ experiences that Cancun and Playa del Carmen offer, Tulum has a strong focus on being an eco-tourist hotspot, meaning that the preservation of these natural wonders is at the forefront of everybody’s mind.

As sustainability becomes a global issue, tourists can rest assured that picking this location will give you many opportunities to vacation in a more thoughtful and sustainable way for the planet.

2. Tulum is one of the world’s leading wellness hotspots.

As the wellness industry continues to be an essential criteria for people when planning their vacation, Tulum is quickly situating itself as an extremely popular wellness destination.

The town has wellness cafes and healthy-food eateries on every corner, as well as world-class spas and luxury accommodations with a focus specifically on being well.

Here you have the opportunity to partake in yoga, tai-chi, meditation, healing rituals, and other ancient Mayan techniques which are designed to purify the mind, body and soul.

3. Tulum is now more connected than ever before.

In December 2023, the new Tulum International Airport officially opened, with a number of international flights from popular airlines like United and Spirit set to begin operations early this year.

The new airport is set to bring a huge boost for tourism in Tulum, which had previously only been reachable by private transport, taxi or bus from the ever-popular Cancun airport.

As more and more airlines announce flight paths to Tulum airport, in a bid to catch the most amount of passengers for the best price, Tulum could see itself becoming hot competition against other popular parts of the region.

From February 2024, the Tulum route of the Maya Train will also come into effect, bringing even more hungry tourists in search of all the natural and cultural beauty that it has to offer.

And with the location soon to become digitally connected as well, Tulum is certainly going to be the place to be.
