Popular hotel brand Riu has announced it will open two new resorts in the world-leading destination of Cancun in 2022. The new hotels – Riu Latino in Costa Mujeres, and Riu Palace Kukulkan in Cancun – will bring the total number of Riu brand resorts in the Cancun area to six, offering over 3,400 rooms to visitors.
The Spanish hotel chain also announced the remodeling of a number of their international properties, including the Riu Los Cabos resort in western Mexico.
Despite controversy over the construction of the Riu Riviera Cancun – another of Riu’s projects still to be built near Punta Nizuc, which has experienced delays and opposition since its approval in 2015 – these two new resorts appear to have the green light, and development is expected to begin imminently.
Details are minimal at this stage, but The Cancun Sun will keep you posted when more information is made public.
