Tulum Airport began operations on December 1, 2023, with initial offerings limited to domestic flights.
This year, though, various international flights to the new airport will be available as well, including flights from several U.S. cities.
As the dates draw nearer, it’s the perfect time to take a look at all of the U.S. cities that will be launching direct flights to Tulum this year.
U.S. Airlines That Will Offer Direct Flights To Tulum
Several popular U.S. airlines will be offering flights from various cities around the country to Tulum.
The list includes both low-cost airlines and major carriers.
So far the airlines that are on that list are:
- United Airlines
- American Airlines
- Spirit Airlines (Spirit recently delayed their flight start)
- Aeromexico
- Delta
- JetBlue

Cities That Airlines Will Fly To Tulum From
There are a handful of cities that we have reported will have flights to Tulum offered by various airlines.
Additionally, FlightConnections is now providing an extended list of U.S. cities that will have flights to Tulum Airport.

When Flights From The U.S. To Tulum Are Expected To Begin
Some airlines will be launching flights on the same day, while others will start on various other dates.
As of right now, not all of the airlines have set dates yet, but we do know that American Airlines, and Delta have all announced that they will offer their first Tulum flight on March 28th of this year, while Spirit recently delayed their launch.
These initial flights will be flying out of Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, and Charlotte, Atlanta, and Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale, respectively.

Where Tulum Airport Is Located (Hint: It’s Not In Tulum)
Tulum International Airport, also known as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, is not really located in Tulum at all.
The airport is actually located about 25 miles south of Tulum.
This is about 40 minutes away by car.

Tulum Airport Transfer Services Controversy
With the airport being so far away from the actual city of Tulum, you’ll need transportation from the airport to your hotel.
Right now there is some major controversy going on with airport transfer providers operating at the airport that involves the high cost that they’re required to pay to drop off and pick up passengers.
That cost is around $53 per trip, so it doesn’t leave them much room to make money without charging passengers exorbitant rates.
This has led providers to cancel service from the airport.

How To Get To Tulum If You Want To Visit Right Now
You may not be able to fly into Tulum Airport right now but that doesn’t mean you can’t get to Tulum.
Cancun International Airport is less than two hours from Tulum, and there are direct flights from 41 U.S. cities to Cancun Airport.
You can easily fly into Cancun and then book a taxi or private transportation to get to Tulum.
It could cost you as much as $100 or more, but the trip is worth it.

Another Way You’ll Be Able to Get To Tulum In The Near Future
Before long, by summer according to reports, you’ll also be able to take the Maya Train from Cancun to Tulum.
This will likely be the fastest and most affordable way to get to the destination.
If estimates are correct, this option should be available by June.
