With temperatures soaring, Cancun’s spectacular white-sand beaches are beginning to fill up with sun-seeking travelers.
The city’s powdery shoreline attracts millions of travelers each year—especially in summer—and invites visitors to cool down in crystal-clear waters.
A new report published this week shows that beaches in Cancun’s resort zone are skyrocketing in popularity, welcoming nearly 100,000 travelers last month according to the Directorate of the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) of the municipality of Benito Juárez.
And with the start of the hectic summer travel period just around the corner, the city’s beaches are about to get a lot busier.
With that in mind, here’s a round-up of the most crowded beaches in Cancun right now.
Cancun Beaches Fill Up With Travelers As Summer Heat Intensifies
There exists little doubt about Cancun’s reputation as the top beach destination in Mexico. And if there ever was, the latest statistics show that the city welcomed nearly 100,000 visitors to its beaches last month, reaffirming the hotspot’s tropical appeal.
According to the Zofemat environmental agency, which runs most of Cancun’s beaches, visitor numbers are up by 30,000 compared to the same period last year.
Cancun has stepped up efforts to improve travelers’ beach experience, improving cleanliness standards and bolstering environmental protection levels.
This summer, Cancun’s beaches are likely to be more popular than ever, with visitors looking to escape the scorching summer heat.
Playa Delfines
Coming in at number 1 on the list of Cancun’s most popular beaches is Playa Delfines.
Practically an institution for visitors, this centrally located white-sand shore boasts some of the cleanest sands and waters, making it an ideal first stop for beachgoers.
In May, the gorgeous location welcomed over 34,000 visitors. Expect larger crowds at the beach, and opt for early morning or late evening swims to avoid hordes of visitors.
Playa del Nino
A popular white-sand beach just north of Cancun, Playa del Nino is the city’s second-most visited beach right now. In May, it welcomed some 20,000 visitors, highlighting its unique reputation among beachgoers.
Playa del Nino is a popular choice thanks to its palm-tree-lined coast and numerous dining and shopping options. Far more versatile than other locations, Playa del Nino is great for families.
Playa Marlin
Situated smack-dab in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone, Playa Marlin is currently the third most visited beach in the city. The white-sand attraction recorded more than 17,000 visitors in May alone.
The Blue Flag beach delights visitors with its postcard-like scenery, including crystal-clear tropical water and countless aquatic activities.
Playa Marlin enjoys an excellent reputation among visitors since it has a minimal amount of street vendors, as officials continue to crack down on illegal commercial practices in the area.
Playa Caracol
Located on the north end of Cancun’s resort zone, Playa Caracol attracts a steady stream of visitors owing to its shallow clear waters.
Playa Caracol is quieter than most other Cancun beaches, making it an ideal choice to escape the summer crowds. The white-sand beach is ideal for families, boasting a quiet and safe atmosphere.
Playa Tortugas
Yet another Blue-Flag-certified beach, Playa Tortugas is the fourth most popular white-sand beach in Cancun right now.
Situated close to the Isla Mujeres ferry terminal, this iconic beach is a top contender for the status of Cancan’s best beach.
Much like other nearby beaches, visitors will find numerous shops & services closely, making Playa Tortugas an excellent choice prior to those heading to Isla Mujeres.
