Who doesn’t love their signature dishes with a side of tropical glam and style? Playa del Carmen is not only a bustling beach destination in the Riviera Maya, but it’s also known for its eclectic food scene. So, once you’re done indulging in some cheap and amazing street tacos, up your ‘gram game and head to these top Instagram-worthy restaurants in Playa del Carmen. You’ll get great food and service, not to mention lots of validation from your followers.
Alux Underground Restaurant
A little touristy? Yes. Super unique and impressive? Also yes. This is the spot to go to in Playa del Carmen for a bit of a splurge and to dine in one of the most unique restaurants in the world, as Alux is set in an ancient cave and cenote that dates back thousands of years!
Make a reservation here and prepare yourself for an evening of signature cocktails and an impressive menu of seafood, vegan, as well as meat options cooked with local flavors in a mystical underground setting. Where else can you get chandeliers and stalagmites in the same room?
Bajo
Tucked away on a little street in Playa’s Colonia Hollywood district, Bajo Cafe is a great place in Playa for some coffee or brunch in a shaded spot in the open air. Walking into this cafe on a typical weekday means that you’ll be amongst a slew of Playa’s expats and digital nomads, hard at work planning their next mindfulness retreat or typing away on their laptops.
