Who doesn’t love their signature dishes with a side of tropical glam and style? Playa del Carmen is not only a bustling beach destination in the Riviera Maya, but it’s also known for its eclectic food scene. Playa’s international population really allows for a serious variety of dining options, and foodies like yourself will certainly not be disappointed.
So, once you’re done indulging in some cheap and amazing street tacos, up your ‘gram game and head to these top Instagram-worthy restaurants in Playa del Carmen. You’ll get great food and service, not to mention lots of validation from your followers.
Alux Underground Restaurant
A little touristy? Yes. Super unique and impressive? Also yes. This is the spot to go to in Playa del Carmen for a bit of a splurge and to dine in one of the most unique restaurants in the world, as Alux is set in an ancient cave and cenote that dates back thousands of years!
Make a reservation here and prepare yourself for an evening of signature cocktails and an impressive menu of seafood, vegan, as well as meat options cooked with local flavors in a mystical underground setting. Where else can you get chandeliers and stalagmites in the same room?
Tucked away on a little street in Playa’s Colonia Hollywood district, Bajo Cafe is a great place in Playa for some coffee or brunch in a shaded spot in the open air. Walking into this cafe on a typical weekday means that you’ll be amongst a slew of Playa’s expats and digital nomads, hard at work planning their next mindfulness retreat or typing away on their laptops. You can’t go wrong with their Instagrammable smoothie bowls and the other health food items on their menu. For real, this is the spot to go to take in some of Playa’s unique energy and trick your followers into thinking that you’re really in Bali.
This little spot along Avenida 10 in the heart of Playa del Carmen is where you can find some of the best burgers in the city with a side of style. Indulge here (and take lots of pics) in this quaint outdoor setting with a jungle aesthetic that’s pretty much quintessential Playa.
Cinco Restaurant & Bar
What’s a beach vacation without a rooftop once in a while? Run by Thompson Hotels, Cinco is complete with a swim-up pool and amazing views of the Caribbean Sea. Reserve a table for their Weekend Rooftop Brunch, and you’ll get one of the most ‘grammable brunches you’ve ever experienced.
La Perla Pixan Cuisine & Mescal Store
When you’re wandering along 5th Avenue (which we know that you will be at some point in Playa) take a right when you hit Calle 38, and you’ll find yourself in one of the most scenic little streets in Playa del Carmen. The whole street is pretty Instagrammable, but one of the most popular restaurants to hit up here is La Perla. Here, you’ll dine under a palapa roof while sipping mezcal cocktails. The vibe here is what you come to Playa for.
La Cueva del Chango
Just across the road from La Perla is another ‘grammable dining spot on the picturesque Calle 38. Enjoy more regional dishes in a jungle setting that will remind you (and your followers) that you in fact are in the Riviera Maya.
Beach views, live music, and shisha? You got it all at Fusion, one of the most ‘grammable seaside restaurants and bars in all of Playa del Carmen. Fusion serves up your basic international and Mexican Caribbean fare, affordable drinks, and amazing snacks to enjoy while taking in the sea breeze and the great vibes. It can get pretty busy in the evening, so come early or try your luck after the dinner rush (after 9 pm) and you might get a table.
