This Cancun Hotel Zone All-Inclusive Will Reopen This April After A $50 Million+ Renovation

Share The Article

If you have driven down Kukulcán Boulevard in the last year, you might have noticed one of the most iconic structures in the Hotel Zone has been unusually quiet.

The Paradisus Cancún—famous for its massive, Mayan-pyramid-style architecture—has been shuttered since June 2025. In a city where hotels rarely close for more than a few weeks, a nearly year-long closure sparked a lot of rumors.

But the wait is finally over.

The resort has officially confirmed it will reopen its doors on April 1, 2026, just in time for the Easter travel rush. And it’s not just reopening; it’s coming back with a $50 million+ facelift that promises to modernize the classic property without destroying its character.

Here is what you need to know about the new look of the Paradisus and what this means for travelers heading to Cancun this spring.

The “Pyramids” Are Staying

First, let’s address the biggest concern for long-time fans: the architecture. The Paradisus is distinct because of its five glass-roofed pyramids that mimic Mayan temples.

The good news? The renovation was an “evolution,” not a demolition. The $50 million investment focused on:

  • The Interiors: The guest rooms were gutted and redesigned to improve layout and technology (a common complaint in older Hotel Zone properties).
  • The Grounds: The gardens and public walkways have been refreshed to match the modern interiors.
  • The Vibe: The goal was to keep the “atrium” feel—where you see vines and sunlight inside the main buildings—while removing the dated elements that made it feel like 1990.

The Big Addition: “The Reserve”

The most significant operational change is the introduction of a new adults-only wing called The Reserve.

In the past, Paradisus had “Royal Service,” but “The Reserve” is the brand’s new, elevated concept. This isn’t just a different wristband; it’s effectively a hotel-within-a-hotel.

  • Privacy: It features upgraded suites and exclusive private areas (pools and lounges) that are off-limits to regular guests.
  • The Target: This is clearly a move to compete with newer luxury builds like Le Blanc or Secrets. If you want the amenities of a mega-resort (multiple restaurants, huge beach) but the quiet of a boutique hotel, this wing is designed for you.

Why This Reopening Matters

For travelers, the return of the Paradisus is a big deal for inventory.

  1. Prime Location: It sits on a stretch of the Hotel Zone that offers the “best of both worlds”—a wide, swimmable beach on the Caribbean side and sunset views over the Nichupté Lagoon on the other.
  2. Price Point: With rates reportedly starting around $325 per night (and ~$395 for The Reserve), it is aggressively positioning itself as a high-value alternative to the $800+ luxury tier.
  3. Timing: Reopening on April 1 means it will be fresh and fully operational for the late spring season. Unlike soft openings where half the restaurants are closed, the long closure suggests they aim to be 100% ready on day one.

Our Take

It is rare to see a resort with this much history get a second life. Usually, they just get painted over or demolished.

By investing $50 million into the “bones” of the property, Paradisus is betting that travelers still love the pyramid charm—they just wanted better WiFi and nicer showers.

If you are planning a trip for April or May, this might be the most interesting “new” option on the market.
