This Classic Cancun All-Inclusive Will Soon Finish A 2-Year Renovation: What Tourists Can Expect

Share The Article

When you hear “Club Med,” you probably think of your parents’ vacation photos from the 90s. It’s the brand that basically invented the all-inclusive concept, but for a while there, some of their properties were starting to feel a little… vintage.

But if you’ve been writing them off, you need to pay attention to what is happening at the end of the Hotel Zone right now.

Club Med Cancun is currently wrapping up a massive, multi-year transformation that is turning this classic resort into something that can actually compete with the shiny new builds in Costa Mujeres. We’ve been tracking this renovation since it started in 2024, and now that we are heading into the final stretch for 2026, the picture is finally coming together.

Here is the deal on the new upgrades and whether it’s worth booking for your next trip:

The “Best Location in Cancun” Argument

First, I have to give credit where it’s due. Club Med Cancun sits on Punta Nizuc, and in my opinion, it is hands-down the best piece of real estate in the entire Hotel Zone.

Why? Because it’s on a private peninsula. You have the Caribbean Sea on one side, a calm lagoon on the other, plus direct access to the Great Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Most resorts make you take a boat to see coral; here, you just wade in. Since snorkeling is literally my favorite thing to do in the ocean, I am so hyped for this renovation!

The renovation is finally giving this prime location the hardware it deserves.

Phase 1 & 2: The Family Upgrades (Already Done)

If you’re traveling with kids, the best parts of the renovation are already finished. The resort has doubled down on being a family paradise with two major additions that opened recently.

  • The “Aguamarina” Family Oasis: This is basically a resort within a resort. They’ve added a new Mayan-themed splash park called “Cenote” and a water park dubbed “El Templo.” It’s massive, it’s colorful, and it keeps the high-energy kid chaos contained in one area so the rest of the resort stays chill.
  • Sports & Wellness Island: Opened in April 2024, this area is genuinely cool. They combined a relaxation zone with high-octane activities. We’re talking a Circus School with a full-sized flying trapeze (yes, you can try it), bungee jumping, and—because it’s 2026—courts for pickleball and paddle tennis.

Phase 3: What’s Coming in 2026

The final piece of the puzzle is hitting this year, and it’s the one I’m most excited about. The resort is overhauling its “village center” to ditch the retro look for a modern, “Mayan Chic” aesthetic.

  • The New Infinity Pool: The old main pool is being replaced by a massive oceanfront infinity pool. This is the “Instagram shot” the resort was missing. It’s designed to visually merge the lagoon and the sea.
  • Room Renovations: The Deluxe and Pool Rooms are getting a total gut renovation. They are moving away from the generic tropical look to a more sophisticated style with local wood, stone, and Mayan-inspired textiles.
  • Grab & Go Beach Bar: Finally. They are adding a dedicated spot right on the sand for quick cocktails and tacos, so you don’t have to put on a shirt and go inside just to get a snack.

My Take: Who Should Book This?

Club Med has always been a bit different. It’s French, it’s active, and it’s very social.

  • Book it if: You are an active family or a couple who hates sitting still. If you want to snorkel, sail, kayak, and learn to trapeze all in one day, there is literally nowhere else in Cancun that offers this much included activity. The location alone is worth the price of admission.
  • Skip it if: You want dead silence and a butler to unpack your suitcase. This isn’t that kind of luxury. It’s “active luxury.”

Active Luxury

Book If: You hate sitting still. You want to trapeze, snorkel, and sail all in one day.

Skip If: You want a butler and total silence. Go to Costa Mujeres instead.

The Bottom Line

The renovation is breathing new life into an icon. By the time the dust settles later this year, Club Med Cancun won’t just be “good for an older resort”—it will be one of the top contenders in the region, period.

Just keep in mind: until Phase 3 wraps up later in 2026, there will still be some construction barriers up near the main pool area. If you want a construction-free zone, book a room in the Aguamarina section (for families) or the Jade Exclusive Collection (for luxury seekers).
