Isla Mujeres, located just off the coast of Cancun, is an increasingly popular island destination, recently named best beach destination in Mexico, that offers a wealth of restaurants and bars, as well as a fantastic beach. It’s not the cheapest vacation destination, but there are still bargains to be had if you know where to look. Here, we’ll run through the top 5 budget hotels in Isla Mujeres.
Hotel Boutique Bahia Tolok
Hotel Bahia Tolok is located part-way down the western coast of Isla Mujeres in an area known as Bahía. It’s a small place with only 12 rooms, but it’s all the more charming for it. Each unit is uniquely decorated, with bright colors and comfortable furnishings, and the waterfront location is pretty spectacular too. The swimming pool and private beach are unexpected bonuses, and a wide range of tours and activities are on offer. Breakfast is also included in all room rates.
Overall, this hotel provides an impressive array of services given its sub-100 USD price point, so it’s no surprise it’s such a well-rated budget option in Isla Mujeres.

Nomads Hotel, Hostel, and Beach Club
If you’re looking for a younger scene, Nomads Hotel, Hostel and Beach Club is a great option with shared dorms as well as private rooms helping keep the cost down. The attractive decor is rustic-chic, and there’s a lovely beach vibe throughout, with open walkways linking rooms and an enviable beachfront location.
This hotel isn’t in the main town, which is worth noting if access to the beach at Playa Norte is important. However, there’s a popular bar and beach club on site, and regular events are also scheduled, keeping guests entertained.

An Isla Mujeres classic, Hotel Bucaneros is found in the heart of the action on Centro’s main street, Miguel Hidalgo. Because of the central location, it can get noisy at times, but for the convenience of being so close to the best bars and restaurants, you can’t beat it.
Rooms are simple and comfortable, each with air-conditioning, and they’re decorated in neutral colors. The communal spaces are cute and there’s a lovely garden to be found on the ground floor terrace. The hotel has a public restaurant where breakfast is served, and Playa Norte is only a five-minute walk away. With room prices starting at only 100 USD per night, this hotel is quite the bargain.

Casa Alkimia Town
A new hotel concept on the Isla Mujeres scene is the mini-chain of Casa Alkimia Town and Casa Alkimia Oceanfront. Both are lovely Tulum-esque places, and the decor in each is neutral and focuses on using natural fibers to reflect the surroundings. Although the oceanfront property isn’t budget, at Casa Alkimia Town, rooms are available from 120 USD per night.
Casa Alkimia Town is located in the main tourist area of the island, but you don’t need to worry about noise, as it’s on one of the quieter streets, so you can enjoy the easy access to bars and restaurants but can return to your own oasis when you need some respite.

Tres Mentiras Boutique Rooms
Tres Mentiras Boutique Rooms are located above a bar of the same name on the island’s main street, Miguel Hidalgo. Due to the location, noise is to be expected, but with rooms from around 70 USD, Tres Mentiras offers great value for the quality of accommodation offered.
It’s an intimate place offering only 6 rooms, each one named after a Mexican state. Rooms are individually decorated in sympathetic Mexican styles, with nice attention given to those extra touches like embroidered fabrics, painted ceramics, and handicrafts. There’s also a handy rooftop terrace where visitors can soak up the sun as well as the atmosphere from the busy street below.
