Tulum has a lot going on right now, and with all the projects being completed, there is no shortage of, or limit to, the number of things to do.

Tulum’s New Infrastructure And Attractions

Tulum has been a popular vacation destination for a while now, growing to fame when travelers visiting Cancun began looking for something with a little more of a bohemian vibe.

It’s known for its nature, wellness experiences, nightlife, Mayan culture, and stunning beaches.

And now, there are five more reasons to visit…

New Jaguar National Park

Just days ago Mexico’s current and future presidents inaugurated the much-anticipated Jaguar National Park.

Located in the northeastern area of Tulum, the park is nearly nine square miles, making it the second-largest protected area in Mexico.

Not only is it full of flora and fauna, but it’s loaded with trails and the Tulum archeological site sits at the center of it.

New East Coast Museum

Also within the new Jaguar National Park is a new museum, the East Coast Museum.

The museum is the largest museum along the Mayan Train route, and according to President Lopez Obrador, is “one of the most beautiful in the world.”

It’s dedicated to the history of the Mayan civilization.

Extension Of Archeological Site

All of these smaller projects are part of the bigger project of the extension of Tulum’s archaeological site, which is home to the famous Tulum ruins.

The Tulum ruins, some of the most important ruins in Mexico, are the only seaside ruins in the region that sit on a cliff overlooking the Mexican Caribbean.

The extension of the site includes more access points to the beach, another viewpoint, and trails that lead to the Maya Train.

Tulum Airport

Not only is Tulum better than ever to visit, but it’s easier than ever to get to as well.

The Tulum Airport, inaugurated in December of last year, is an international airport that has several airlines offering flights to the destination from the U.S.

The airport, located outside of the city, is also connected to the Maya Train.

The Maya Train

The Maya Train, President Obrador’s pet project, is very close to finally being fully operational after years of work.

The first of the seven sections of the train route began operating in December of 2023.

The last section, a much-anticipated route that extends to Tulum from Cancun and Playa del Carmen, is now in its final stages.

Once completed, travelers visiting the Mexican Caribbean can fly into either Tulum or Cancun and hop on the Maya Train to get to several amazing destinations in the region.

Some of those destinations, which you can currently book tickets here to get to from Cancun, include Puerto Morelos, Merida, Valladolid, Izamal, and Chichen Itza.

Staying In Tulum

Tulum might not have as many high-rise resorts as Cancun, but there are plenty of amazing hotels and all-inclusives.

You’ll also find hostels, boutique hotels, and eco-resorts too.

One thing is for sure: you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect accommodations to relax in at the end of a long day of sightseeing in Tulum.

All the hype about Tulum is fine but there is one problem. There is no access to the beaches unless you are staying in an All Inclusive! It is nice to have beaches but you have to pay money to an All Inclusive or a hotel to gain access to a nice beach!
