What It Really Costs For Food & Drinks At NON All-Inclusive Cancun Resorts In 2026

If you are planning your summer getaway to the Mexican Caribbean, you might be considering skipping the standard all-inclusive wristband. Booking a standard room at a luxury resort gives you complete freedom. You are not tied to the same buffet line every single morning, and you never feel guilty about leaving the property to explore because you already paid for meals you are not eating. It is a fantastic way to travel, but it comes with a major unknown that stresses a lot of people out. How much is your food and drink tab actually going to cost you by the end of the trip?

What It Really Costs For Food & Drinks At NON All-Inclusive Cancun Resorts In 2026

Prices across the Hotel Zone have definitely shifted recently, and things are not as cheap as they used to be a decade ago. To give you total peace of mind before you pack your bags, we took a deep dive into the real numbers. Here is exactly what travelers are paying for food and drinks at four and five-star non-all-inclusive resorts right now. 🌴

Your Daily Drink Tab From Sunrise To Sunset

Staying hydrated and enjoying a few tropical drinks under the summer sun is non-negotiable, and your beverage choices will be the most consistent part of your daily spending.

If you are grabbing a morning latte or a mid-day soda directly from your resort’s cafe, you can expect to pay anywhere from $5 to $8 USD. It is standard resort pricing, but if you want to save some cash, you can easily walk to one of the many convenience stores scattered down the main strip and grab a cold drink for around $2 USD.

When it comes to alcohol, a cold Mexican beer by the pool is a staple. Whether you are ordering a draft or a bottle at a resort bar or a high-end beach club, you are looking at around $6 to $9 USD each.

The real budget crusher for many travelers is the cocktail menu. You simply cannot visit the beach without ordering a fresh margarita, a mojito, or a frozen daiquiri. At a luxury non-all-inclusive property, standard mixed drinks typically range between $14 and $20 USD. If you head into one of the upscale lounges for a signature craft cocktail or call for a premium tequila, you will easily see those prices push past the $25 USD mark.

If you prefer wine with your evening meal, a standard glass of house wine usually runs between $15 and $22 USD. Buying a bottle at dinner is often the better value, with decent starting options hovering around the $50 to $70 USD range depending on the vintage. 🍹

Budgeting For Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

The biggest variable in your daily spending is going to be your appetite. Resort dining offers unmatched convenience, but you are absolutely paying a premium for the atmosphere and the ocean views.

Starting your morning with a proper sit-down breakfast at the hotel restaurant usually costs between $25 and $45 USD per person, for the buffet or plated breakfast.

For lunch, most travelers just want something easy while lounging by the water. Ordering a burger, a fresh salad, or an order of fish tacos directly to your lounge chair will usually set you back about $30 to $55 USD per person, especially once you add in a tip and a non-alcoholic drink.

Dinner is where you have the most control over your spending, but it is also where things can get very expensive very quickly. For a standard, high-quality dinner at an on-site resort restaurant, plan to spend around $60 to $85 USD per person for a drink, main course and an appetizer. If you want to treat yourself to a prime steakhouse or a fine dining experience along the Nichupte Lagoon, you need to budget at least $100 to $150 USD per person before you even factor in dessert or a second round of drinks. 🥩

The Realistic Daily Budget For This Summer

So, what is the magic number you should have in your head for the summer of 2026? If you plan on eating all three meals at your luxury resort or at similar high-end restaurants within the Hotel Zone, and you enjoy a few drinks by the pool throughout the afternoon, a safe and realistic budget is between $150 and $200 USD per person, per day.

This gives you enough cushion to order what you want without constantly stressing over the menu prices, while also factoring in gratuities. Of course, if you are a light eater or prefer to skip alcohol entirely, you can comfortably bring that number down closer to the $100 USD mark for the day. 💵

How To Unlock Massive Savings Off Property

The absolute best part about skipping the all-inclusive package is that you are practically forced to leave the resort bubble. If you want to experience the true flavors of the region while keeping your budget totally in check, you need to head into Downtown Cancun.

Just catch the local R-1 bus running up and down the Hotel Zone for about a dollar, and take it straight into Centro. You will find an entirely different world of dining where the prices drop dramatically. You can feast on incredible, authentic street tacos for just a couple of dollars, or sit down at a highly-rated local seafood spot where a massive, fresh meal will cost you less than $20 USD. Not only will this stretch your vacation budget much further, but it also delivers a vastly superior culinary experience compared to a generic hotel burger. 🌮
