The Maya Train is one of the biggest factors behind Quintana Roo’s expected growth. Although only a small section of the multi-billion infrastructure project has officially opened, the full launching of the railway system in early 2024 will undoubtedly attract more travelers.
The upshot is that millions of visitors will be able to access dozens of hidden gems across the Yucatan peninsula; from Chichen Itzá’s age-old beauty to remote national parks, the Maya Train will revolutionize travel in the popular region.

Meanwhile, the Maya Train will massively increase the popularity of several off-the-beaten-path destinations in southern Quintana Roo, including Chetumal and Bacalar, both of which have their own Maya Train station.
The brand new Tulum International Airport is another factor that is set to help the Mexican Caribbean soar further in popularity. With a capacity for up to 5 million passengers per year, the innovative airport is attracting huge international attention.

And with Tulum slated to become one of the trendiest hubs for travelers, a handful of airlines have already announced new routes to the airport. Next year, JetBlue, Spirit, United, and American Airlines will all operate nonstop flights to the sunny destination, enabling millions more to travel to the spectacular cultural and historical region.
The Mexican Caribbean is also making strides in bolstering safety for millions of visitors thanks to record investments in law enforcement and high-tech equipment. Although the region continues to see high levels of petty crime and corruption, new efforts are underway to improve safety.
