Today, December 15th, marks the historic launch of the first Maya Train section. Get ready to ditch the dusty highways and wind through Mayan jungles in style!
Tickets for this inaugural ride practically vanished the second they went on sale; it seems Cancun travelers are catching train fever, but not every section of the train is open quite yet.
The final section – the one we are all so excited about between Cancun and Tulum – has a launch date.

The Final Stage Of The Massive Maya Train Project
The last section of the Maya Train project, the section that will connect Cancun to Tulum and everything in between, will be ready to begin operations in February.
The date set for the inaugural ride along that section is set for February 29th.
According to reports, project managers have assured officials that the section will be ready by this date.

Why The Final Maya Train Section Is So Important
Some of the most popular vacation destinations in the Mexican Caribbean are along the final section of the Maya Train.
Many travelers fly into Cancun Airport with plans to visit one of these places.
Transportation to some of these destinations can be expensive, and traveling to them takes up precious time.
The Maya Train will be cheaper and faster than taking a taxi or private transportation.

Where To Go When The Final Section Is Completed
There are several amazing destinations along that final section of the train route that are worth visiting.
Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, and of course, Tulum have plenty to offer for tourists who want to explore beyond Cancun.
Since the Maya Train travels at speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour, tourists will be able to get to these destinations faster than ever.

The First Section Of The Maya Train Route To Open
The section of the Maya Train that has already been inaugurated is the route from Cancun to Campeche.
Along this route you can visit the popular Chichen Itza archeological site and other Mayan ruins, and several charming towns and cities.
The trip from one end of the section to the other is around 300 miles, with endless sights to see along the way.

The Current State Of The Cancun Maya Train Station
The Cancun Airport Maya Train station is currently still under construction, with a final completion date yet to be announced.
Workers are working around the clock to get the station completed but it won’t be done before the inaugural trip on Friday, December 15th.
According to reports, though, the trip will take place despite the station being incomplete.

Tickets For The Maya Train
Currently, Maya Train tickets can only be bought through the eTicket website.
For the currently available dates, tickets are around $67 for economy class tickets and around $107 for premier class.
The dates that tourists can currently buy tickets for are Saturday, December 16 – Saturday, December 23.
Tickets will also be sold at the train stations in the future.

How The Maya Train Will Change Mexican Caribbean Travel Forever
Not only will tourists be able to get to popular destinations faster than ever before, but they will also be able to visit destinations that were not easily accessible before.
Small rural towns throughout the Yucatan Peninsula will now be able to develop into tourist destinations that offer travelers different experiences.
