Making Your Arrival Experience Smoother
Your vacation should start relaxing the moment you step off the plane. Cancun Airport has implemented several upgrades aimed at improving your arrival:
- Easier Immigration Process: For many international tourists (including those from the US, Canada, UK, most of Europe), the hassle of filling out the old paper immigration form (FMM) upon arrival at CUN is gone! Just ensure your passport is valid throughout your intended stay.
An immigration officer will stamp your passport, granting you entry for tourism purposes for a period up to 180 days – the exact duration is at the officer’s discretion and may be less. You’ll typically see two options at immigration: traditional immigration desks with agents, or the faster e-Gates (automated kiosks) available in Terminals 3 and 4 for eligible travelers (18+ with a biometric passport from participating countries).
Important: If you use an e-Gate, carefully keep the receipt it issues; you might need it when departing Mexico. - Free Wi-Fi Access: Need to connect upon landing? Look for the “INMVITADOS” or “CUN Wi-Fi” network for free internet access throughout the airport terminals. This is a significant upgrade, making it easy to check messages or travel arrangements. Be aware that, like many free public networks, it might have time limits (potentially around 60 minutes per session) or varying speeds, especially during peak hours.
- Other Conveniences: You’ll also find airline-specific self-service kiosks which can be helpful, and a general focus on maintaining clean, well-signed facilities to help you navigate smoothly from the gate to your ground transportation.

Growing for Your Future Trips to Cancun
Cancun’s popularity shows no signs of slowing, and the airport is investing significantly to handle the volume comfortably. A major expansion of Terminal 4 is actively underway. This is a significant project (around $400 Million USD / 8 Billion Pesos) that will greatly increase the airport’s capacity over the next few years (work started late 2024 and is expected to take about five years). It includes more passenger space, additional aircraft gates, modern systems, and a new control tower, all designed to enhance the experience for the millions of visitors arriving each year.
Your Cancun Trip Starts Here
