Cancun Is The Most Affordable International Destination For Americans To Fly To Right Now

Last Updated

Good news for price-conscious travelers looking to plan a vacation to Cancun later in the year.

According to a recent survey, the beach resort destination is one of the most affordable locations in the world that still has some cheap flights available for travel now through the September Labor Day holiday.

Flights For Sand and Surf

A recent analysis by the large travel website Priceline shows that Cancun is a sand and surf destination that still has affordable flights available for visitors planning a trip through Labor Day weekend.

At an average of $395 per round trip flight, Cancun ranked No. 1 for cheapest destination ranked by flight cost.

Priceline cited the affordability and attractiveness of the beach resort destination along with the flight cost in determining the ranking.

Fellow Mexican beach resort destination Los Cabos came in No. 2 in the ranking, followed by Nassau, Bahamas; Vancouver, Canada; Toronto; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Puerto Vallarta; and San Jose, Costa Rica.

Hotel Rates Fail To Make The Cut

On the other hand, no Mexican beach resort destination made the list of cheapest destinations ranked by hotel room cost.

To make the Priceline list, hotel rooms had to be less than $85 in Hyderabad, India. Pattaya, Thailand topped the list at $57 per night.

Hotel rooms in Mexican beach resort destinations like Cancun are well over these prices.

We’re Number One!

Back in June, Priceline declared Cancun the top international destination for travelers in the summer of 2023.

Following Cancun in the top five was London, England; Mexico City; Paris; and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Cancun also ranked No. 3 in the Priceline most popular destination for families in the 2023 survey.

The Trend is Our Friend

According to the Priceline survey, visitation to Cancun is expected to remain strong due to a number of different cultural factors making the location highly desirable to visitors.

The research report cited the fact that travelers wanted to feel immersed in the culture while also ensuring the amenities meet their needs; that they are in a safe neighborhood and close to points of interest.

The survey results also indicated that 84% of Americans believe that traveling internationally is an excellent way to learn about other cultures.

The generation trends are also in favor of Cancun as a popular travel destination.

The research said Millennials and Gen Z show a particularly strong inclination toward international trips.

Also, the report indicated that among Gen Z travelers, 36% have plans to embark on an international trip in 2023, indicating their enthusiasm for exploring destinations outside their home country.

Lucky for Cancun, it also meets the qualities demonstrated in the summer Priceline survey and is conveniently close to home with low flight costs.

Good News For Cancun Travelers

The good news is Cancun should remain an affordable destination for travelers thanks to a number of recent additional flights announced by major airlines.

The additional flights will continue to ensure that there are plenty of seats and affordable options for travelers to Cancun.

However, the prices for the top hotel rooms remain high due to the demand. However, there are value-oriented hotel rooms available from major chains, especially those located around the airport area.

The drawback is the additional cost associated with these rooms due to the budget location and need for transportation costs of getting to the popular tourist spots in Cancun.

Despite the current low prices available for flights until Labor Day, budget-oriented flyers looking to travel to Cancun should move now to lock in their preferred dates before fares increase closer to the holiday weekend.

The good news is as long as the tropical weather season holds, the rest of the summer should prove a great time for a beach resort vacation in Cancun at a price that won’t break the budget.
