The completion of the Maya Train that will operate throughout the Yucatan Peninsula is a much-anticipated date for both locals and tourists.
Travelers visiting Cancun and other Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations will be able to get to other amazing cities and towns.
Many of these, which were otherwise difficult or expensive to access, will be easier and cheaper to get to once the train is completed.
Section 4 Of The Maya Train
One section of the Maya Train, section 4, will go from Cancun to Izamal.
The route will run for approximately 150 miles, with numerous historically and culturally significant cities and sites along the way.
There are five top attractions that are a must to explore along this nearly complete section 4 (estimates are about 97 percent) of the Maya Train.

Izamal
The city of Izamal itself, the last stop along section 4 of the Maya Train route between it and Cancun, is definitely worth a visit.
It is the first city in Mexico to earn the distinction of being a Magic Town, a town with historical, cultural, or natural significance, and it is undoubtedly the history and culture that earned it that honor.
All of the buildings in the city are painted a bright hue of yellow, and the must-visit, especially for travelers who love architecture, is the Convento de San Antonio de Padua, a 16th-century convent.

Chichen Itza
Anyone who knows anything about the Yucatan Peninsula knows that Chichen Itza is the most popular Mayan archeological site among visiting tourists and for good reason.
These important Mayan ruins are one of UNESCO’s New 7 Wonders Of The World.
There are 26 different ruins on the site, including the largest, the El Castillo pyramid, all of which are no doubt a wonder to see.

Valladolid
Valladolid, also one of the seven Magic Towns in Yucatan, is full of beautiful colonial architecture, charming streets, and history.
These reasons alone make it worth visiting, but the Cenote in the middle of town is an added bonus for those looking for a truly unique experience.
Tourists who wish to explore the history, culture, and architecture of Valladolid should be sure not to miss the Calzada de los Frailes, Convento de San Bernardino, or the Centro Regional de Artesanías Zací.

Ek Balam Ruins
The Ek Balam Ruins, located just outside of Valladolid to the north, are easily accessible from the Valladolid stop along the Mayan Train section 4 route.
The site consists of 45 structures, including an Acropolis, multiple temples, and two palaces.
The Ek Balam archeological site is often compared to Chichen Itza because of its size and historical significance, so it’s certainly worth a visit.

Cenote Zaci
Remember that cenote mentioned above that’s located in the center of the city of Valladolid? Well, that is a must-see along the section 4 Maya Train route too.
Cenotes are naturally formed swimming holes that form out of limestone caves that collapse and fill with rain and groundwater.
There are hundreds of swimmable cenotes throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, and Cenote Zaci, with its blue-green crystal clear cool waters, is one of the best.

Mexico’s Maya Train Project
Mexico’s Maya train project is expected to be completed by December and will give tourists the opportunity to explore the entire Yucatan Peninsula safely, enjoyably, and affordably.
There will be a station at Cancun Airport, so you’ll be able to hop on the section 4 route right from the airport.
And there is so much to see along this route through the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula.
