CANCUN — The “slow season” in Cancun is officially a thing of the past. After a year of posting international arrival numbers that stayed remarkably close to 2024’s record-breaking figures, Cancun is gearing up for what is expected to be another incredibly busy high season.
With hotel occupancy set to skyrocket starting November 1st and running all the way through April, authorities are not leaving anything to chance. A massive, multi-agency security plan is being deployed to ensure the destination remains one of the safest and most secure in the world for the millions of visitors about to arrive.

Here at The Cancun Sun, we’re giving you the on-the-ground look at what this bolstered security means and what you can expect from the upcoming high-season rush.
A Massive, Coordinated Security Presence 🛡️
In a clear move to ensure visitor safety and confidence, a large-scale, coordinated security operation is in full effect. This isn’t just a local effort; it’s a joint operation involving all three levels of government.
Admiral Julio César Gómez Torres, the Secretary of Citizen Security for Quintana Roo, was recently seen conducting a supervisory tour of key locations in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The goal, according to officials, is to strengthen security and ensure a close, protective presence for both local businesses and visitors.

For travelers, this translates into a highly visible and reassuring presence on the ground. You can expect to see:
- National Guard patrols on the beaches and in high-traffic tourist areas.
- State and Municipal Police conducting regular patrols along Kukulcan Boulevard.
- Federal forces coordinating with local agencies to ensure a secure environment from the airport to the Hotel Zone.
This massive deployment is a proactive measure, cementing Cancun’s status as a top-tier destination that takes the safety of its visitors as its number one priority.

What “Near-Record Crowds” Mean for Your Trip
The consistently high passenger numbers all year, even during the “slow” month of September, are a powerful indicator of what’s to come. The winter high season is expected to be incredibly busy, likely operating at near-full capacity.
While this creates a fantastic, vibrant energy, savvy travelers should be prepared for the realities of a destination in high demand:

- Book Everything in Advance: If you’re traveling between December and April, “spontaneity” is not your friend. Your resort’s top à la carte restaurants will be fully booked for the week by your second day. Popular excursions and private tours will be sold out. You must make your key reservations before you leave home if the resort permits. If not, book on the first day of your arrival.
- The “Towel Game” is Real: Be prepared for the 6 AM “towel game” at the pool. The best lounge chairs will be claimed before sunrise at most large resorts.
- Pack Your Patience (Especially at the Airport): The new e-Gates have made immigration much faster, but the airport will be packed. Be prepared for longer waits at baggage claim, rental car counters, and for your transportation.

This is the new reality of Cancun’s success: it’s a year-round mega-destination. The high season promises perfect weather and an incredible atmosphere, and with the new, strengthened security measures in place, it is set to be one of the safest and most exciting seasons yet.
