Want to get away from it all and spend your next vacation getaway in the jungles of the Mexican Caribbean without losing the finer things of hotel travel?
Located just a couple hours west of Cancun, or about an hour south of Merida, is a new glamping travel opportunity that will provide travelers to connect with nature and sustainability.
Luxury Jungle Glamping
Grupo Presidente has debuted Viatura Hacienda Xtojil, a luxury glamping resort located in the jungles of the Yucatan.
It’s what the company calls a “tourist camping” concept with five-star amenities and services, located in fields of henequen, an ancient type of Mayan agave.
Tent Accommodations
Tourists can stay in a 398-square-foot Pepper Tent with a king size bed, private bathroom with amenities, air conditioning, coffee kit and private terrace.
While it may have a wooden floor, tourists can enjoy some added amenities such as a plush bathrobe and of course free WiFi so you are never out of touch.
A larger 603-square-foot Champagner Pool Tent has also of the same great amenities as the Pepper Tent with more space and a private plunge pool.
The standard rate for some nights in June was $268 for the Pepper Tent and $479 for the Champagner Pool Tent. Both rates were nonrefundable and do not include a $13 per person, per night, resort fee and 21 percent in taxes and fees.
A bed and breakfast option was available for an extra $40 per night as well as an all-inclusive package with a culinary experience, domestic bar and one experience per night.
Luxury Amenities
Despite the semi-rustic accommodations, travelers also get some amenities more in tune with resort style properties in the Mexican Caribbean.
The entire glamping resort only has 15 tents but also includes a full-service restaurant and bar, an outdoor swimming pool, a sound healing room to connect to nature, and, of course, a nomad business center to stay connected to the outside world.
There is also a foodie culinary experience available, which includes food and an open bar.
Nature and Sustainability Travel
For more than a year now, travelers have identified sustainability and nature as two key factors in travel that they use when determining a vacation getaway destination.
That has led to a boom in travel in areas such as Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.
That has also merged with a trend towards more luxury destination travelers visiting Mexico travel hotspots such as Cancun.
This new glamping travel destination seeks to combine all three travel trends in one focused resort.
Time will tell if will succeed with travelers. However, it may attract more younger and eco-focused visitors to the Mexican Caribbean.
What Tourists Need to Know
The glamping experience at Viatura Hacienda Xtojil is definitely an interesting concept and resort-style opportunity.
However, it does seem to be a little high priced for the accommodations and amenities provided for travelers.
For some travelers, the opportunity to connect with nature and sustainability will make Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean appeal to travelers. Price may not be an issue for these visitors.
While new, trendy, fun, and unique, it will only appeal to a segment of the travel base that chooses a vacation getaway to the Mexican Caribbean. It will definitely help attract different travelers than those seeking the sun, sand and surf on the beaches of Cancun.
Grupo Presidente, the resort’s developer, already operates several hotels in Mexico, including Kimpton, Holiday Inn Express, Marriott, and Hyatt properties.
This new resort concept helps to attract a different travel segment to the region and will probably be a style of resort that will grow in popularity as it becomes more well-known in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean region.
