Everything You Need To Know About Traveling From Cancun To Merida On The Maya Train

The launching of the Maya Train might not be going quite as planned, but the bugs will surely be worked out soon.   

Because of this, there’s no reason not to get excited about the huge impact it will have on travel for tourists in the Mexican Caribbean and the wider area of the Yucatan Peninsula.   

One popular destination that the train will make it easier to get to is Merida.

When You Can Travel From Cancun To Merida On The Maya Train 

Currently, there are two time slots for taking the Maya Train from Cancun to Merida.  Both of these are in the morning, at 7:00 am and 9:00 am.   

Only one train returns to Cancun from Merida and departs from Merida at 4:55 pm.   

The early departure times and late afternoon return times give you plenty of time to explore this fascinating destination.

Where To Catch The Maya Train In Cancun 

The Cancun Maya Train station is located on the airport property, so if you’ll be heading straight to Merida upon arrival you’ll be right where you need to be.   

They have free shuttles that you can take to the station.   

If you’ll be visiting Merida at a later time, you’ll have to get back to that airport station.   

Rather than having to pay for a taxi, though, you’ll be able to catch a bus at one of two transfer stations, one of which is conveniently located at Plaza Las Americas in the downtown area.

How Much You’ll Pay To Take The Maya Train From Cancun To Merida 

So far, the Cancun to Merida Maya Train route is the least expensive route available.   

There are two classes of seating: tourist/economy seating and premier seating.   

The prices for those tickets, respectively, are approximately $44 and $70.

Where To Get Tickets To Travel To Merida From Cancun 

Tickets for the Cancun to Merida Maya Train route are being sold through the eTickets website.   

They will also be sold at each of the Maya Train stations.   

Additionally, there has been mention of a Maya Train app that will have a ticket purchasing feature, although it’s unclear when it could happen, especially considering the hiccups that the train’s launching has been experiencing.

How Long It Will Take To Get To Merida From Cancun On The Maya Train 

The benefit of taking the Maya Train to get to Merida, as opposed to say a bus, is that it will be faster to get from one place to the other.   

The Maya Train travels at speeds of around 100 miles per hour.   

That speed results in getting from Cancun to Merida, or vice versa, in about an hour and a half.

Arriving In Merida 

Merida does not have its own Maya Train station but rather is just minutes away from another station.   

If you plan on taking the train to Merida, then you’ll be dropped off at the Teya station located in the city of Kanasin.   

The city is about 3.5 miles from Merida, but you’ll be able to take the Ie-Tram from the station to Merida.

Things To See And Do When You Arrive In Merida 

Merida is full of exciting things to do, which is why the destination is so popular among tourists.   

Known for its rich Mayan history and heritage, the destination is home to a fantastic Maya museum and is surrounded by fascinating Mayan ruins.

You call "bugs" what in reality is junk. Passengers remain astray in this train for hours, the service is terrible, tickets are expensive. But it's the fault of costumers who are too gullible for using that service trusting this garbage product of the government.
