How To Enjoy The Mexican Caribbean When Bad Weather Threatens Your Trip

Share The Article

Despite the sunny and hot reputation of the Mexican Caribbean, even this beautiful corner of the world receives dips in weather.

Sometimes, travelers see the clouds roll in, bringing rain showers that put a dampener on even the most committed beach travelers and their sun, sea, and sand plans.

Unfortunately, the forecast throughout the month of February isn’t shaping up to be super-reliable either, with scattered showers and periods of rough seas expected. Although temperatures will remain comfortable in the low 80s during the days and dropping to the low 70s in the nights.

Thankfully, the Mexican Caribbean has much more going for it than just beautiful beaches, and when the bad weather hits, travelers aren’t short on awesome experiences that can save a vacation and keep spirits high.

This is how to enjoy the Mexican Caribbean when bad weather threatens your trip.

The Outdoors Aren’t Off Limits

The first thing that travelers should remember when the bad weather hits the Mexican Caribbean is that even though it may not be the perfect day for the beach, the weather changes fast here.

Across the internet, there are a whole host of articles and blogs on what to do in Cancun when the weather isn’t super, and they almost all keep travelers indoors.

But, while conditions may not suit a tanning session coupled with a relaxing swim in the Caribbean Sea, that doesn’t mean travelers have to hide inside the whole day.

Explore More Than Just the Malls

Across the Mexican Caribbean travelers can find many top-quality malls, these are often full of designer outlet stores and even food courts with American fast-food joints that can scratch the homesick itch.

However, travelers should take the time to explore at least one of the many wonderful mercados or tianguis in the region. These are essentially like Mexican flea markets but with a whole host of amazing artisan goods and products that are often at a fraction of the price of the sellers in the Hotel Zone.

Additionally, for travelers who want an authentic Mexican food experience, these tianguis also have many wonderful street food stalls, serving stables like tacos, birria, and quesadillas at their delicious best.

Mix Sunscreen With Adrenaline

Another way travelers can make the most of their time in the Mexican Caribbean, even when the sun isn’t shining, is by making the most of the near-endless adventure activities on offer.

Travelers can choose just how much adrenaline they’re comfortable with, with a huge array of adventure parks that cater to young kids right up to experienced adrenaline junkies.

  2. Xcaret Park
  3. Xel-Há Park

On top of the big-name parks, travelers can find a huge array of smaller tour providers and organizers for everything from jungle ATV tours, to culturally rich days out at some of the region’s lesser-known Maya ruins.

Interactive Aquarium

Despite the advice not to spend the day inside, an exception has to be made for this wonderful experience.

The Interactive Aquarium Cancun is located in the northern half of the Hotel Zone and gives travelers an awesome snapshot of the underwater richness of the Mexican Caribbean.

Like most aquariums travelers will be exposed to some of the undersea world’s most colorful and interesting creatures, on top of this there are fantastic interaction tanks that allow travelers to get up close and personal with some of the more inquisitive species.

However, one of the big highlights of the Interactive Aquarium is the aquarium trek. Using special helmets connected to breathing tubes, travelers can take a stroll at the bottom of one the largest tanks in the aquarium, and experience many wonderful creatures shoulder to shoulder in their world.
