This incredible influx of visitors marks a significant 2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 and an absolutely whopping 28.5 percent jump from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. So, what’s fueling this tourism boom? Secretary Rodríguez Zamora credits this phenomenal growth to a combination of “Mexico’s strong economic and tourism momentum” and the “strengthening of our country’s airport infrastructure.” In simpler terms, Mexico is not only a fantastic place to visit, but it’s also becoming easier and more efficient to get here. And that’s fantastic news for everyone, from local businesses to our cherished international guests.
She went on to say, “This growth… clearly demonstrates the strengthening of our country’s airport infrastructure, which in turn allows us to continue making the tourism sector a key link in bringing well-being and shared prosperity to all Mexicans who participate in this noble activity.” It’s a win-win situation! Now, let’s talk about how you, our wonderful visitors, are getting here. When it comes to Mexican airlines flying international routes, Aeroméxico and Volaris are leading the charge. They flew an impressive 3 million 393 thousand passengers in the first quarter, marking a healthy 3.1 percent increase from last year. So, a big shout-out to them for connecting Mexico with the world!
And for our friends visiting from the United States, it looks like American Airlines and United Airlines were your top choices. These carriers brought a massive 3 million 523 thousand passengers to Mexican soil during the same three-month period. It’s clear the love affair between the US and Mexico is stronger than ever!
