With international travel back in full swing, Canadians are more than eager to get back out there and flock south, especially for winter. The good news for travelers up north is that not only are flights being relaunched from Canada to sunny destinations and beyond, but some of the country’s top low-cost airlines have now scheduled new flight routes to popular vacation spots like Cancun.
Just in time for the winter travel season, here are the new low-cost flight options to Cancun from these Canadian cities in Ontario.
Swoop Launches New Flight Route From Toronto To Cancun
Ultra-low-cost Canadian airline Swoop announced earlier this week that they would be adding a number of new routes from cities across Canada to sun destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean, and one of the new routes includes Toronto to Cancun.
Starting this month, Torontonians can get daily direct flight services to Cancun through the airline. Base fares are currently starting at $269 for a one-way flight, with 8 flight frequencies per week during the high season.
“As Canada’s leading ultra-low fare airline, we are thrilled to be expanding sun-flying this winter,” Bob Cummings, President of Swoop, said during the announcement. “With winter weather upon us, demand for leisure travel down south is reaching new heights, and we’re proud to meet that demand with this added capacity.”

This new holiday season flight service launched on Swoop will be yet another addition to the direct Toronto-Cancun route, already served by Flair Airlines, Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat. You can find flight deals to Cancun and beyond on the FlySwoop website.
In less than 5 hours, you’ll be under sunnier skies and forget all about the snow back home.
Vacation Airline Sunwing Relaunches Direct Flight
Another direct flight route to Cancun that was announced recently was by Sunwing, Canada’s main vacation destination airline. While the company typically sells cost-friendly all-inclusive vacation packages to popular winter sun destinations for Canadian travelers, Sunwing also offers flight-only options allowing sun seekers to curate their own trips.
Among the relaunched flight routes added to Sunwing’s winter season itinerary this year are flight services to Cancun and Varadero, Cuba, from Thunder Bay, Ontario. This means that residents in western and northern Ontario won’t have to travel to London or Toronto to get to Cancun for their winter vacation this year.
“We’re excited to return to Thunder Bay this winter season, with direct Sunwing flights to two of our most popular vacation destinations in the tropics,” said Andrew Dawson, President of Tour Operations for Sunwing. “As a longstanding partner for us at Sunwing, we’re thrilled to continue working together with Thunder Bay International Airport and help residents travel to paradise with ease from their local airport.”
This weekly light service from Thunder Bay to Cancun began last week on December 12th and will be running until April 10, 2023.
