Since December, the Mexican government has been launching the operation of different sections of the much-anticipated Maya Train route at different times.
So far, five sections are in operation.
The most recent section that was inaugurated is the Cancun to Playa del Carmen section, which is expected to be one of the most popular routes.
The Cancun to Merida route is the most popular right now, though, and this popular Maya Train route from Cancun is increasing the number of daily departure times.
New Departure Times For One Of The Maya Train’s Hottest Routes
It takes roughly an hour and a half to make the journey by Maya Train from Cancun to Merida.
The times that the train departs from Cancun are 7:00 am, 5:00 pm, and 7:10 pm.
From Merida to Cancun, the train initially only departed twice a day, at 3:30 and 5:30 pm, but now it will also make the trip an additional three times each day, at 7:00 am, 8:45 am, and 1:43 pm.

How Fast The Maya Train Travels
The Maya Train travels much faster than a car or a bus, so getting between these two cities by Maya Train will take much less time.
The train travels at around 100 miles per hour.
This means it makes the trip between Cancun and Merida in about an hour and a half, whereas the drive would be about double that.

What This Means For Tourists
If your home base for your vacation is Cancun and you want to visit Merida, a tour to the destination can take up your entire day.
The extra time slots and the speed at which the train travels changes things, and makes it easier to still have an evening to yourself once you arrive back in Cancun faster than you would have if driving.

What You’ll Pay For This Maya Train Adventure
One of the exciting things about the Maya Train for tourists is that, in addition to being a faster and safer way to travel the Yucatan Peninsula, it’s also pretty affordable.
There are two different pricing categories for tickets, or classes, for tourists, the Tourist Class and the Premier Class.
Ticket prices for the Cancun to Merida trip are around $54 and about $92, respectively.

Why Travelers Are Flocking To Merida On The Maya Train
Merida, founded in 1542, is a charming city filled with history, culture, and authenticity.
Throughout the city, you can see the old-world charm displayed in the stunning colonial architecture, the landscape of the city, and the colorful buildings that line the streets.

Amazing Sites To See Along This Popular Route
On the Maya Train route between Cancun and Merida, there are several worthy stops along the way.
Two other amazing cities, Izamal and Valladolid, are each enchanting cities for their own unique reasons, and both are Magic Towns, which proves how special they are.
Even more popular along the route, though, is the great Chichen Itza Mayan ruins site, the most visited archeological site in Mexico.

The Future Of Maya Train Inaugurations
There have been some delays in launching the Maya Train along the way, but it won’t be long until eager travelers will have access to the entire route.
That route includes the entire Yucatan Peninsula and the Mexican Caribbean coast.
The next section to be completed will be the Playa del Carmen to Tulum section, which is currently predicted to be completed in August.
Until then, a trip to Merida is a great way to spend a day of your Cancun vacation.
